I bought my 2 month old bunny a cage today and set everything up nicely for her. I gave her a timothy hay tunnel for her to climb through, chew and dig. I also gave her two other toys that I bought at the store for her to play with. I loaded her up with plenty of hay, food and fresh water. She seems comfortable in her new setup but I am curious about whether or not she is bored in her cage?

I try to give her as much time to run around as I possibly can but when she’s in her cage she is usually just laying down or sometimes interacting with her toys. Is she content?? I want to do whatever I can to make her happy and stimulated when she’s in her cage because sadly, I can’t allow her to come and go as she pleases. Is there anything I should be looking for that would indicate she is bored/unhappy in her cage? I appreciate any tips you guys have to offer!

Maybe, what are the cage dimensions, and how many hours per day does she get to run-around?

Most pet-store cages are pretty small (even the big ones), but as long she gets 4-5 hours of exercise per day, she should be fairly content for a while.

Laying down a lot and playing with toys sometimes sounds pretty normal, depending on the time of day. That said, most bunnies sleep a lot during the day! Mine are most active in the morning or evening, and even then spend long periods lounging, in between bursts of energy.

If you can’t give her total free run while you’re away, you can try attaching an x-pen to give her a “front yard”, so he has a bit more space to run around if she feels like it.  You can also rotate her toys if she seems uninterested in them.
