ok i have been searching the web for all the fresh veggies and friut buns are allowed to have for i am starting a really good job and will be able to have them steadily on the fresh stuff, along with their hay and pellets, and to my knowledge they have not been given anything fresh except for graa. they were strickly outdoor buns before i rescued them and brought them inside to live. they will have an outdoors area but not til the warmer weather arrives and it will be just so then can have fresh air and ome grass but will not be living outside!! i like them in the house, ok so anyway, my FAVORITE fruit in the world is watermelon and would like to know if this is safe for them to have? i have only found on sites that says honey dew and melon so does that include watermelon? does anyone give their buns it? i dont want to try to give to them to find out it is bad for them so i want to ask before they even get it! please let me know and anyother good fresh stuff for them. they will be slowly introduced to the fresh stuff, no worries there. 1 item a week, a bit at a time.

Watermelon is safe, just make sure to give them the fleshy red part and not the rind part or seeds

I usually only give a small chunk to each bunny and I will let it sit on a paper towel to absorb all the extra water that is very sweet- makes less of a mess and they get less sugar and they still love it!

They are not supposed to eat iceberg lettuce. Romaine, green leaf and red leaf are all fine lettuces they can eat. As far as the garlic, I’m no help there – I’ve never heard of giving it to buns. I would hold off giving him any until you are absolutely sure.

awsome!! thank you for letting me know about the watermelon!! im happy to hear that. igot them a ceramic dish JUST for treats.

i know garlic is toxic to dogs if in large does but it also keeps fleas away. i make my own homemade dog food, wet stuff, it is stew actually and we could eat it, if you like cow heart, kidney and liver, but we would find it bland and i put garlic in it and notice the dogs dont get fleas or ticks and they go to 22 acres of untouch property (my parents) that is invested with ticks!

ok, i found this on garlic:

                      Question
Hello, I have read conflicting things about whether garlic is good or bad for bunnies. On PubMed there are medical studies showing the reduction of arthersclerosis in rabbits w/ garlic use. However, non-expert sources such as House Rabbit groups are insistent that garlic is toxic. What is your opinion?

                      Answer
                      Dear Melinda,

I would not give garlic or onions to a rabbit. Mammals other than the great apes (including humans) sometimes contract a dangerous type of anemia (Heinz Body anemia) from compounds present in these aromatic vegetables.

Rabbits given a healthy diet don’t generally have a high risk of atherosclerosis, so I wouldn’t worry about that. Just keep him on a healthy diet:

                      and you should be fine.

                      I hope this helps.

                      Dana

here is the site address i got it from:

Though we don’t have Kiwi on our list, and the HRS main site doesn’t include it – I found Kiwi on the

                            Missouri House Rabbit Society list

and  I aslo found Kiwi was recommended in an article that HRS put out.
The line in the article: “Other vegetables and fruits can also be given such as apples, pears, peaches, berries, pea pods,  papaya, mango, kiwi, tomatoes, melon, oranges” SOURCE:

I used to give Lash seedless watermelon, but didn’t know about the rind. I think she ate it all! or else, she would eat it down to the white part, can’t remember.

I’m worried. I just read Whiteout’s article on Bunny Diet from Dana and I’ve been giving Buddie dried miniature corn ears, he started on his third one today and finished eating the kernels off a whole ear the day before. I hadn’t realized how harmful they are to bunnies. I hope he doesn’t have it impacted in his intestine. Thank you for posting that article! I hope it’s not too late I read it. (I took his third mostly uneaten ear out of his pen and popped it for myself in the microwave.)
