I was wondering if it is safe to share food with your Bunny?? Of course it is safe food like apples, or a banana, but is there some kind of sickness I can get from her or she can get from me for doing this?

Off the top of my head, salmonella, if either of you are eating contaminated food. I was curious about this too because I share bananas and apples with my bunny, so I did some digging around and found this in an older BinkyBunny thread: http://www.medirabbit.com/Zoonotic/Zoonotic_main.htm A lot of these are contracted from wild rabbits and some of these are rare, so I would say it’s a slim possibility but still a possibility.

I’ve been sharing apples and bananas with my buns for many years (like well over 10) and we’re fine

I do. My husband thinks it’s gross, but I’m sure we’ll all survive.

There are few things that can be passed from human to bun and bun to human. If your bunny is healthy, I don’t see why there would be a problem.

According to my bunny guru vet, there’s nothing communicable (contaminated food obviously is another issue).

My bun and I share dishes, food, and he sometimes takes food from my mouth because he’s a pushy-pants, and we’ve never had problems

I often envision sharing a nice fruit salad with my bunnies but they are greedy greedy monkeys with no boundaries and one has a very sensitive tummy so none of that for us

When I “share” my fruit with Luna, it’s usually a race for me to scarf down as much of it as possible before she snatches/begs for all of it .

BC – Lol, I love how Bandit gets a few bites and then when it’s finally your turn to have a bite, he pounces as if to say “That’s enough for you, my turn!”

Q8 – there are a couple things, but they are not things a bunny would commonly have.

Bam likes to share my food. A couple of weeks ago he jumped into a plate of baked butternut squash with Parmesan cheese and roast sunflower seeds. I was holding the plate in my hand and out of nowhere this little black cannonball of a bun landed on top of it. It was warm (but not steaming) so he jumped right off again. I had to go get me a new plate and Effi (dog) got the squash Bam had sat in

So yes, we share food in this family.

Did Bam need a butt bath after that adventure?

No, he didn’t sit there long enough for anything to stick

                                      My bunny begs for Apple.
We had cut up apples to dip in our yogurt while sitting on the couch; she was all over us

I like your story Bam! Adorable
