So Blaze just got a molar trim yesterday and he has metacam for the next few days. He also had metacam for the past week ish leading up to his trim. He had been getting it at 7 pm in his veggies everyday. Last night he wouldn’t take it on his veggies, so I had to struggle with him to get him to take it and I finally got him to take it around 10/10:30 pm. Is it safe to give it to him tonight at 7 or do I have to give it to him at 10 ish? Thanks so much guys!

Since the dose is probably not extremely high, it is ok to give the dose at 7 pm. I have a rabbit that is on long term metacam, and its not always possible to administer the med at the same time every day. Rabbits metabolize meloxicam rapidly.

Okay thank you so much! He’s on .47 ml per day and he’s 1.42 kg. It’s the “metacam oral suspension for dogs”. Does this seem right? It’s for mouth pain after the trim and for minor sores on his hocks, which the vet says is probably due to decreased activity from dental pain, and him sitting around putting pressure on the hocks more.

Dog metacam is 1.5 mg/ml. 0.47 ml for a 1.42 kilo rabbit, gives a dose of 0.5 mg meloxicam per kilo body weight.

This is a conservative dose. Medirabbit quotes a dose of 0.3 mg to 0.6 mg meloxican per kilo body weight, and up to 1.5 mg per kilo body weight for severe pain.
