As part of my Rabbit proofing reno ( AGAIN) – I got some cork, thinking maybe this texture will be to her liking.

I can’t find ANYTHING about regular ( non-treated) cork being on the not safe list, but I can neither find anything on it being safe.

I’d imagine the biggest safety issues would be if they bit off a little piece and swallowed it…

I do not think cork is safe if ingested- and cork is so soft and likely to brak and crumble with digging or chewing.  Cork is unlikely to break down in the stomach and could cause a blockage or GI irritation.

I would think that cork would absorb and expand.

um – this is pretty funny – I went to google “cork for rabbit flooring” and the first thing that popped up was binkybunny.com with THIS post! hahahaha

I would recommend covering the cork with seagrass mats if you are using it for a flooring. I’m thinking that your bunny might not be as tempted to dig and pull at cork as much as carpet, so in that sense it might be better since carpet is also dangerous is ingested too much. My guess is that cork is as dangerous as a bunny ingesting other kinds of flooring like linoleum or rugs – but that is just a guess!
