Hey! I have a 2 month old female Flemish giant and a female dwarf hotot, I had them at the vet today for a health check (and to make sure they’re actually female haha) I made an appointment for their spray (they can’t go for another 2 months due to age and size) I have the following questions:

Are they too young to bond?
When their hormones kick in will they fight even if bonded (hoping they are spayed before this happens)
Should I just wait until they’re both spayed?
Is it safe to house them together before they are spayed even if they do bond?

I had them in the bathtub together today for several hours and it went really well (hotot was grooming Flemish at one point) but I’m afraid that Their bond could be broken if one of them all of a sudden gets moody with the hormones lol

        Is it worth the effort?

Is it ok to just allow them to hang out together during floor time but have separate pens until they are spayed?

Sorry for ranting and thanks in advance

            Yes.

            Yes.

            Yes.

No. You never know when the hormones will kick in, so it’s better not to take the chance. If it happens when you are sleeping or not around to stop the fight, it can turn quite ugly.

Baby bunnies are all nice and friendly, but each bunny matures at a different pace and you won’t know until there are signs (usually negative) of hormonal behaviour. Some bunnies have bitten a chunk off their “supposedly bonded” friend’s tail, testes or ear because they were placed together before being truly bonded.

            Is it worth the effort?
It’s worth the effort when both are spayed and their hormones have died down.

Is it ok to just allow them to hang out together during floor time but have separate pens until they are spayed?
Not really. Bunnies don’t really “hang out” like dogs do and they don’t “make friends” just like that. Also, two months is still pretty young and there is still a chance that vets will sex the bunnies wrongly at this age. One of them may turn out to be male, and if they are put together, you may find yourself with some unwanted baby bunnies. Bunnies can mate very, very fast.

They should be separated at all times until both are spayed at the appropriate age. There is usually a spike in hormones post-spay, so you’d have to wait till that is settled till you can bond them. For now, if they aren’t displaying any signs of distress being around one another, you can put their pens in the same area (but far enough apart so they don’t have a chance to mate, just in case one of them is male). Bunnies can mate through bars so it’s best not to put the pens directly side by side.
