Diesel, my 2 1/2 month old Mini-Rex is a male solo house bunny. I’d like to get him a companion. I have one choices at this point, and I’m looking for advice. Live in town, but it’s still rural, and there a few choices for adopting another bunny.

My choice is a 2 year old, altered male Dutch rescue. I have the opportunity to “date” these two. I understand that he is very loving, gets along well with his male playmates, and loves to be cuddled. He is a medium sized rabbit. The rescue is 100 miles away (no rescues close by)

I realize a male/female pair is best for bonding, but I would prefer another male, as it is about 200.00 cheaper at the vet then a female to alter when mature. Also, I have a small condo and while Diesel’s cage is large and multi-storied, I only have about 700 square feet in the condo for them to roam and share. Right now, Diesel is a very loving and sweet bunny, but I’ve read they are happier in pairs. Is it OK to introduce a companion this early in Diesel’s development? Should I wait for 6 mos until after his neutering before I start looking for a companion or if the two date well, would it be wise in small quarters?

        Thanks!

Bonding can only take place after all bunnies involved are neutered/spayed. Until Diesel is neutered I wouldn’t worry about finding a companion.

I agree. It is not a good idea to bond or even date your bunny until they are both fixed.
If you would like this bunny, you can adopt him, but keep them separate.
