Okay, so before anyone panics I should say, this could just be me being an over-protective bun mom. Here’s the story:

So, for the past few days, I’ve noticed OB’s right leg looks a little more inward than the other. She still hops around fine, but she can’t flop as well. Sometimes when she tries to flop, she gets up, and I can tell that she wanted to flop, but couldn’t. She has been flopping, it’s just occasionally she can’t.

She has also been going back and forth in her pen, which she didn’t use to do, but that could be because I moved it to a different room she hasn’t been in before. She still has the same x-pen though. Other than this her behavior has been fine though, acting normal, and eating, drinking, and using the litter box fine, if that helps.

I have shown her leg to some friends, and they say she looks fine, acts fine, but there might be something up with it. I really don’t want to take any of them to the vet unless it is an emergency, for I don’t want them exposed to RHDV2, well at least not until I get them all vaccinated. Thank you for reading!

How old is OB? Could it be some arthritis developing?

Thank you for your reply! 🙂 They are all one year old. One of my friends suggested that is could be a pulled muscle? Could this have happened during a binky? I also notice, that one leg sticks out more than the other. I don’t know which is the normal one, for one sticks out, and the other is smooth so you can’t see the hump for the leg. Is it fine as long as she can move on it? I feel bad though each time she can’t flop. 🙁

            Thank you! 🙂

Hmm… and you haven’t noticed this before? There is something that is referred to as a “pinched hindquarter” and what it means is either one or both heels point inward. So their feet are like this \/. This is undesirable for showing, but we don’t really care about such “defects” around here. It generally doesn’t affect their quality of life. The only thing I can think of is it might lead to arthritis later on.

Perhaps her feet were like this all along and you just didn’t notice it until now. If it was already sticking out, I could see it accidentally getting twisted if she tried to maneuver a certain way.

Thank you for your reply. 🙂 I have not noticed this before, and I don’t think she has a pinched hindquarter, for she never has trouble flopping a certain way. It doesn’t stick out much, but you can tell something is there.

One of my friends strongly beliefs that she pulled a muscle, do you think that is what caused it? should I try to get some pictures, would they help? If she did pull a muscle, is that a serious thing, or will it just go away?

If it is a pulled muscle, then yes it should heal with time. The only treatment would be rest and possibly pain meds. If she had that kind of injury, I would worry about a torn ligament. Does the joint still feel solid?

Thank you. She does feel solid on the joint, and yesterday actually seemed to be doing better. I let her out for a bit to get some exercise for I felt bad about confining her to her x-pen, and she hopped around. I’ll let her rest until it is healed.

Again, thank you for helping me and OB with this, I had other possibilities spiraling in my mind, and I’m glad it’s not them that she had. 😉

@Hazel, thank you, me too, the poor girl has been in her x-pen for a few days now, I feel bad, but she’s happy in there. *Sigh* OB… 🙁

Update: OB hasn’t been improving. Well, she’s coming out of her pen more, and she’s active, but her leg is still the same. Is it possible that she developed a pinched hindquarter? I don’t think that she was born with this. She also had a little bit of diarrhea earlier, but other than that little bit, she’s had solid poops, if that helps any. She’s seemed really fragile lately, I’m worried about the poor girl. Thank you in advance!

Is she hopping around OK? Like, does it seem to prevent her from moving around?

Yes, she’s moving around fine, except, she can’t scratch her ears sometimes, and still can’t flop certain ways. Thank you for your response.

That is strange. I wonder if something is healing weird and the joint is stiff.

Oh, that could be it. Will it heal correctly then? Thank you! 🙂

I’m sorry she’s not better yet. 🙁 She does put weight on it right?

Thank you. 🙂 Yes, she’s hopping around on it fine, it just bothers her a little bit sometimes. Didn’t know if I was being an over-worrying bun mom. *Sigh* Poor girl. 🙁
