SOOOO — I realized that we had made a HOOMAN introduction section, so everyone could get to know each other but I know (especially with the new people) I’ve had some trouble keeping up with who the bunnies are!!! SOOOOO I was hoping everyone would join in and post about their rabbits! For example, how they got them, age, breed, how long they’ve had them, any quirks about them, ect! And OF COURSE, PICTURES!!

Anyway, my boyfriend and I acquired our first bunny last April from a breeder. We had never even considered the Humane Society (which I’m a little ashamed to say now that I know more!). But as newbies to the rabbit kingdom we were looking for a bunny we could raise from the beginning and bring up ourselves. Which is how we found our first one… Fleury.

Fleury was easily the best first pet rabbit, EVER. Bringing him home was certainly a lesson in bunnies while at the same time he was a loving little creature who pretty much filled every pore of us with absolute joy. We picked him up the day before he turned 8 weeks old. And he quickly became one of the family with his weird jumping habits (binkies) and his wonderful personality. While at first not sure of us, after a few days he was climbing all over and getting to know his surroundings quite quickly.

As new bunny owners and getting used to having our little one around, we decided we were in the market for a friend for our little Fleury. We read in multiple places that rabbits were incredibly social and so upon that (worse reason to get another rabbit) we decided to get another bun bun! This time, however, we did scope out the Humane Society and brought home our 2nd bunny, Mario. My boyfriend however had a horrifying allergic reaction that night and we sadly took our Mario back to the Humane Society. After this incident, we decided it would be better to just stick with the breed we had (as my boyfriend had no allergic reactions to Fleury) and went back to the same place to pick up our new addition, Sidney!

Sidney we got at 3 months old. And as you can see she is a majestic little princess. When we first got her she was INCREDIBLY skittish and didn’t want us anywhere near her, shocking to us as her brother was exactly the opposite. After much time, energy, spay, and love — she is finally one of our loviest little bunnies! She loves climbing in our laps and digging towels with her little feet only daintly hitting the towel. (No lie). I have never seen a bunny as dainty about everything she does as her. Which is why I call her my little princess.

As a little background, when we went to pick up Sidney we brought Fleury along so we could let him decide who he wanted to bring home as his new friend. Of course, he picked the only girl. I was leaning towards the other brother, but after him following her around like a lost puppy dog, we brought her home for him. HOWEVER, a couple days later… my boyfriend hinted towards going back and getting the last one of litter left, the male. After a week or two of contemplating we finally went back and got the last one of the litter. Telling ourselves that he was lonely and no one was taking him and he should just be able to play with his siblings (LOL! I know…). So this is how we ended up with Tanger…

My troublemaker. First night home, this four month old boy had his entire cage destroyed. Kaboobs ripped from the ceiling and shredded apart. Food dish flipped along with the water dish. Which ended up in a mushy paste being spread across his whole second level. Which then turned into his flicking it all over the walls outside the cage. Did I mention how he took his hayrack off the wall and threw that across his cage also? As soon as we went to let him out, he’d start nipping at fingers and boy… he was nicknamed my Devil Child. This little brat wasn’t scared of ANYTHING. When we brought him home and let him out, he was romping on the couch and all over my lap. Needless to say, this little hellion has also stolen our hearts.

So everyone, old and new, this is my bonded trio! All of whom are going to be a year old the 15th of Feb! UGH, how does the time fly!!!!!!!! Their breed is called Tan, the first boy and girl are both Black Tans and my last one is a Chocolate Tan. Their breed is known as “The Aristocrat of the Fancy” as they are a small fancy breed. And boy do they have ‘tudes! Every last one of them. They are also VERY hyper which is why they are non-free roam at the moment even though hopefully in the future they’ll calm down and be able to have a room they can’t destroy of their own. They are all between 4.5-5 lbs though which my girl being the biggest! It’s shocking that something so small can be soo much trouble! But I love them all and at this point wouldn’t know what to do if I lost any of them. They have without a doubt become a huge part of our family.

Sweet! What a good thread idea

Koucha (koh-cha, Japanese for ‘black tea’), nicknamed Chacha online was a breeder discard. She is not show quality, but it didn’t matter to me. I lost my mom back in December 2009 and I had to move in with my Dad. He gave me the approval to get a pet companion. When I saw Chacha’s baby photo, it was love at first sight:

Chacha has been in my life from the time she was 7-8 weeks of age. My boyfriend and I drove an hour and a half up north to get her. Chacha has grown so much from the time she was a baby until now! She went from skiddish baby bunny to “HEY I’M NOSE BONKING YOUR ASS! HEY LADY, GIVE ME FOOD!”
Here she is smiling at the mess she made:

Chacha lives with my dad and I in a rabbit proofed apartment. She runs the place. She is extremely bossy – if she wants pets, she will give you dirty looks and pin her ears back. She is also very confident and loving. Every morning she wakes me up by kissing my face. I reach over for the craisin or cookie bag and give her one for her love. She loafs outside of my dad’s bedroom door until he wakes up to give her breakfast pellets.

When I move out, I will be taking Chacha to the humane society to allow her to pick out a friend. If she wants a friend that is

It is truly amazing how animals can heal humans and make them better people. Chacha has definitely without a doubt made a huge impact on my life — what I eat, what beauty and household items I use (cruelty free), to love all animals, and made me a strong person to advocate for house rabbits.

I love Chacha, and I hope she is with me for a very long time.

            My Bunjamin Bear:
Full name is Bunjamin Franklin. Lots of nicknames. Bunji, Bunji bear, just bunny bear. He’s my little boy and spoiled at that. He came from evil pet store. They weren’t giving the baby buns unlimited hay and I was so mad but I fell in love. I wasn’t really planning on getting a rabbit but I had researched house rabbits for over a year. My mom tried to talk me into a simpler pet like a guinea pig but like I said it was love. I was naive, foolish, and stupid but I quickly learned about rabbits through research and BB. My guess is he was a breeder disguard that ended up at the pet store. Their lost because he is simply the best.

First couple of days home during “playtime”.

Amelia “Sweets” Earhart. Official name is credited to Monkeybun. The humane society we got her from named her “Sweetie” (which we have come to know as mostly true ). We called her “Sweets” for so long trying to figure out a name that it stuck. She is also my Sweetie Pie and little girl . We took Bunjamin dating at our local rescue but unfortunately none of the buns that met our age requirement (our ownly true requirement just because we were hoping to give them the longest possible life together) like Bunjamin back. The rescue mentioned we look at the local humane society that was known for putting rabbits down because they “bit” a worker or “just because”. I looked and without even seeing her picture fell in love with the description of “Sweetie”. We knew we’d be taking her home regardless of any issues to get her out of that place. She has been a doll to live with and her and Bunjamin seem to really be in love. <3 We love her dearly and she is our little girl.
In the meeting room at the Humane society. That’s my leg. It’s our only picture together except maybe some embarrassing Christmas photos so we’re not going down that road

              Excellent idea.

Well, in 2011 I was living in Philadelphia and was pretty miserable. For some odd reason, I don’t really remember why I was doing this, I kept watching baby bunny videos on YouTube. Randomly, as a joke, I posted as a status that when I moved from Philadelphia later that year I really wanted a bunny for a pet. I honestly meant it as a joke. And then in April, on my birthday, my aunt posted a happy birthday message on my FB wall and said that if I was serious she would by me a bunny along with all the starter stuff I needed. Until that moment, I never really thought about my own pet. But I decided that I could do this! So I spent the next 5 months researching. I moved into a new apartment in Ohio and in August on my way to a concert of my very favorite band, my aunt texted me photos of a new batch of baby bunnies from the breeder I was talking to about adoption. Cinnabun was the very first picture I saw and I instantly said, “that’s my bun!” My aunt told the lady that she was not allowed to sell that bun, and about two weeks later, my aunt, my mom, a starter bunny kit, and tiny less than a pound 8 week old Cinnabun arrived. Even though I had done all this research, I think I learned more about taking care of a bunny in those first few months than I could have imagined. Cinnabun was a sweet baby, a humpy bity teen, and is now a spoiled Princess like adult. She’ll be two in July. She’s my best friend and most of my day is spent wondering what else I could do to make her life better. Her favorite things are: all things cardboard, her snuggle toy bunny Daisy, long stretches, bananas, raisins, Italian parsley, and Romaine lettuce. She answers to: Cinnabun, CinnaFluff, The Fluffy One, and Princess.

Here are some of my favorite pics of the Queen.

A week after I lost my first rabbit (Tofu) to an unknown reason I stopped into a pet store to look at their baby bunnies in hopes it would cheer me up. I walked around a little bit, pet the tiny fluffy bunnies, looked at the dogs, and then I saw a stack of cages with a hastily handwritten “free to a good home with purchase of supplies” note taped to the top cage. I looked in and saw a guinea pig face looking back at me. I squatted down and looked in the bottom cage and saw these soulful brown eyes and long mottled ears. GASP! A rabbit! I quickly flagged down a staff member who put the demure bunny in my arms and it was in that moment my eyes started welling up and I knew I had to take him home with me. I left his dirty cage behind, quickly made a donation of $10 and high tailed it out of there before someone else took him.

All I know about his past is that he was purchased from that store by a college student who moved and couldn’t take him, so she surrendered him back to the pet store. He was only there for one night before I came by and snatched him up and it was the best decision I ever made!

Finn quickly made himself at home and became part of our family. He took a liking to the cats rather quickly and they soon started playing tag around the house. He loves to flop outside on the porch and listen to all the neighbors squeal over how handsome he is. His safe spot is behind the tv. He is a big BRAT and thumps at us when he knows it’s time for bed. He loves dinner time with radish leaves and parsley being his favorite greens. He’s not a big fan of mint. Oh and he lovesssss craisins and apples. He takes treats so gently from your hands that you don’t even know they’re gone. He hasn’t bitten me ever. He’s the king of the house and he knows it, and I’m very lucky to have him in my life <3

I currently have two Holland Lops. I used to have four, but had to give two away to my coworker.

Cheddar was my first bunny. He is known as Cheddy on the forum. He is an orange buck that is three years old right now. I got him from a breeder and she brought out five or six orange Hollands for me to look at. All but Cheddy were active and small in size. Cheddy was the biggest one (no dwarf gene), and he sat there like a statue probably thinking don’t pick me, don’t pick me! Of course I had to pick him! I couldn’t stop petting him.

Cheddy is an awesome bun. He flops like a champion, eats like a pig, and is laid back as can be. He does have a little temper sometimes when he doesn’t get his food on time. Cheddy is a funny, funny boy. He binkies and falls to his side, runs head first into closed cage doors, honks and snorts all the time, and flops and sleeps. I love all the joy that he has brought to my life.

Pepperoni (known as Poopy on this forum) is Cheddy’s girlfriend. She is a broken blue doe that is three years old too. I got her from the same breeder. She was so hyper when I went to pick her out.

Poopy is one crazy ninja. She is opinionated, independent, sassy, and always alert. I have only seen her sleep a few times. Poopy loves to be pet on her own terms. She loves jumping on couches, on my back, and pooping all over the place to mark her territory. She loves to binky too…she does some awesome binkies.

                    Cheddy pics:

He’s a chinchilla mini lop, and is one outgoing little boy! I got him from a breeder (please don’t kill me!) because I could not find a suitable rescue bun nearby. He’s about 4-5 months old now, and has the attitude of a teenager! He’s very bossy and cheeky, and if I have him on my lap in cuddle time and stop petting him, he’ll scratch at my trousers or legs and nip me. (“Hey! Lady! Slave! Where’s the pets hm?”) but I love him none the less! I’m saving to get him an NIC condo, because right how he’s in a petstore cage. (The biggest and widest one I could find!) He scoffs hay like a horse and drives me and my family into peals of laughter with his antics. His binkies are just to cutest…but anyway, he enjoys carrot tops, and will pick all of those out of his salad first and goes nuts when it’s pellet time! I love him, he’s my little baby, and I hope he’ll be with me for a long long time

                          I’m loving this thread!

Bindi Loo is my Mini-Lop. He is not a true REW as his eyes are a pinkish/bluish. He will be 6 in the Spring. They grow up so fast! I got him when he was a baby from a pet store (I know much better now), although in my defence our SPCA had no small rabbits at the time. I had decided I wanted one of each bunny, an uppy eared and a lop and I had my Mini-Rex, Stormy. Bindi is the sweetest, most easy going guy in the world. Except during shedding season. My arm is nicely bruised during shedding season. Otherwise, he is a total teddy bear. He loves to sit on the couch and snuggle while I read or watch TV. He’s a pretty high maintenance little guy. We’ve had quite a few near death experiences with him including a blockage, stasis, EC/headtilt. He also has chronic ear infections. But I wouldn’t trade him for the world. He was semi-bonded with my Angel Bunny, Stormy, when Storm passed away in September.

Bindi’s pretty lazy. He loves a good lounge. He often decorates the living room with a “polar bear rug”. He loves to have his wittle back legs all stretched out. He can go nuts, though, and occasionally does zooms and binkies. He’s famous for the “popcorn” binky. He LOVES food.

He has lots of nicknames, such as “Bear, Baby Bear, Teddy Bear, Huggy Bear, Fluffy, Fluffy Butt, LooBop, Cookie Monster and Goose”.

Olivia is Mommy’s Little Princess. Her story with me starts about 5 years ago when my regular non-pet-selling pet store ran out of hay and I had to go to the chain pet store. I saw her in a small glass tank, so small she could barely lay down with a horrible, infected-looking eye. I felt so sad. I went home and mentioned her to Ricky. He, surprisingly, said “If she’s still there in 2 days, we will see”. She was, so I offered the manager $10 and brought her home. Took her to the vet, got her eye infection cleared up and then she honked her way into my heart. The pet store said she was about 1 at the time so, going by that, she will be 6 in the Spring. She had babies while at the pet store. I got her spayed.

Olivia is 100% DIVA! She is full of attitude and mood swings. She will be tooth purring, loving your cuddles one minute, and seconds later, pummeling your face and honking. She gave me a bloody nose and lip this past month! We love her “as is”. It took her well over a year to even let us snuggle her. She can be super sweet….when she wants.

She is very beautiful and lady-like. She has big beautiful eyelashes, shiny fur and is elegant-looking.

She’s very territorial and very much like her Mom, in that she always has something to say. She’s always making noise, grumbling, growling or honking.

She has a teddy bear whom she adores but occasionally beats the crap out of. I gave him to her the day I brought her home. Her specialty is the “Twisty Binky”.

Her many nicknames include “Princess, Beautiful, Honker, Bonker, Chicken, and Pretty Girl.”

Here is a video of her having a little hissy fit the other night: http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/…EO0025.mp4

Great idea for a thread! I’ll have to finish reading everybody’s stories this afternoon, but for now, here are my two.

Otto is an almost 4 year old holland lop. I got Otto in 2009 (four years ago – I can’t believe it’s been that long) as an 8 week old from a show breeder. I really wanted a dog, but we were living in a townhouse with no yard that didn’t allow pets (the landlord did agree to a bunny, after some convincing). I’m not a cat person, but I’ve had gerbils for many years so I thought some other type of small pet might work. I started researching and had no idea that bunnies could run around the house, be litter trained, or were so affectionate. I was sold and after I convinced DH we went out to get Otto.

He’s a great little guy. He has never chewed anything or gotten into any trouble. He’s extremely lazy and rarely binkies, but I love seeing him stretched out with his little feet behind him. He’s very laid back, and really doesn’t care what goes on or where he is, to the point where he runs up to the running vacuum cleaner and can adapt to any new place. When we took him bunny dating, he started grooming himself and eating hay next to any bun we put him with – he just really didn’t care that they were there, even though he had never met another animal before. He’s a grouchy bun though, and not affectionate at all with us, which sometimes makes me sad. Through training we’ve built up a bond though and he gives kisses and sits on my lap for hugs (all for pellets, of course). Most of the time when you try to pet him, he hops off a couple feet and glares at you. lol We keep trying though!

Hannah is a mini lop who is almost 6 years old. I got her as a 3 year old from a woman in NYC who just didn’t have time for her anymore. She has such a funny personality and is the only rabbit I know who never looks disapproving. Most of the time, she just looks kind of concerned about everything going on. lol She can be skittish and nervous about new things, but is also surprisingly bold about climbing up onto furniture or escaping to explore the upstairs. She loooves to be petted and her favorite thing is for you to put your hand over her entire head and just mush it around (the more uncomfortable it looks, the more she probably enjoys it). She’s quite the bossy thing, especially with Otto, and chases him around biting his bum, especially when food might be involved. I feel bad that he has to put up with her bossiness, but he does adore her. I almost didn’t keep her after adopting because she was so crazy and hyperactive, but she’s really fit into our life well and settled down. She’s very active, especially for her age, and goes nuts if she doesn’t get some time for her bunny 500s every day, but her active personality means she’s always entertaining. She’s extremely intelligent and always trying to solve problems (like how to get around the gate blocking the stairs, which she has done at least 5 times), and she keeps me on my toes.

ETA: I forgot that one of the most important things about Hannah is that we almost never call her Hannah – we usually call her “The Mer”. Her original name was Merlin, which we didn’t love (especially for a girl bun), but the nickname of The Mer stuck and we use that more than her actual name or nicknames related to Hannah, like Handa Bear.

All these bunnies are so beautiful!

I love Tanger, he’s such a cutie! Any word from the breeder about the last of the litter? If you get him you can send Tanger over to me.

Hannah melting into the floor for pets is priceless!

I love this thread also, Hazel! Don’t know how I thought of such a good one!

On the status of the 4th bun front — we still haven’t heard. I’m hoping she’ll get out of Tans (as she doesn’t seem to really enjoy them anyways) and give him to us. BUT since I’ve been doing volunteering and I’m really enjoying the cuddle buns they have there. It’s shocking how docile the bunnies are at the shelter compared to my hoodlums. I know this could be because of a lot of factors but even the ones who have personalities that just shine through are SO less hyper than my little hoodlums. SOOOO we have been throwing around the idea of fostering and seeing if a bond would work between a bun we are interested and our three. They have three babies and my boyfriend even threw in possibly one of those girls.. ha! So we’ll see. We are still toying around with the idea of waiting for this one to possibly be available or to just adopt w/ fostering first to make sure it’s a good fit.

I’m still a newbie when it comes to bunnies. I got my first bunny, a female English Angora in March 2012 when she was 8 weeks old. I wanted an angora because I’m a spinner and wanted to spin her ‘fluff’. Needless to say I fell in love and Ash was queen of the house, hopping where she wanted and getting into things she shouldn’t.

I saw an ad for the only rabbit rescue in a 300km radius that they had a small fluffy bunny, I enquired about him and he had a slight eye infection but it was getting treated and the poor thing looked pretty shocking with his old coat still sticking to his sides… I found out that this rescue used a vet in their town who knew a lot about rabbits, so I took Ash up there for her spay (needless to say it was $80 cheaper than my local vet) while Ash was in surgery I went to the rescue and pretty much as soon as I saw “Wooly” I fell in love, I looked at the other bunnies but went back to him and decided that he was the bunny I wanted.

As you can see ‘Wooly’ was pretty rough when I first got him, this photo was taken the day after I got him and had plucked out most of his old coat.

Loki months (and a coat moult) later, a good diet and life as a house bunny suits him well.

Sadly at the beginning of October last year while I was away judging at a show (big agricultural fair) Ash got struck with GI stasis and although my mother tried her best Ash passed away not even 90 minutes after my mother found her lying prone in her crate.

I decided to go back to basics and get a short haired bunny, I looked at a breeder but there was just something that didn’t sit right so I read that the rescue I got Loki from had a litter of babies born there… I originally wanted a boy or two but when I went up there they had two gorgeous sisters which I named Athena (the white and tan) and Persephone (tan/agouti?), I brought them home and put them in Ash’s old crate… they didn’t like been at foot level so I ended up buying a bigger crate, moved Loki down to Ash’s crate and put the girls up near eye level on my ‘bunny bunker’ stand. They seemed to be happier up higher.

The only thing that kind of annoyed me was because they were only 9 weeks old when I got them they weren’t vaccinated nor spayed and the vet that does the work for the rescue said that because the rescue didn’t actually have desexing vouchers the cost of both spay and vaccination would have to be my expense (yeah I know the rescue should’ve covered the cost but what can you do??)

The girls have settled down but still won’t let me pat or cuddle them but Thee comes up and investigates everything that I’m doing. Seph’s still quite skittish. Despite everything they’re still close and a bonded pair. I’m also hoping to add another angora sometime in the future, depending on what happens in my future.

ALSO, I think Tanger is the LAST bun you would choose out of my three! He is …. for lack of better terms… a total hellion. Troublemaker. Rascal. Absolute Destructo bunny. That’s him. I’m pretty sure if he could get his claws to stick he’d be hanging from the ceiling half the day…. He’s beyond hyper. With a bratty little attitude on the side. Okay, BIG bratty attitude on the side. He keeps me young..

In a way, Alvin was a spur of the moment decision, in another, I had been thinking about it for four months. From the first day I drove past and noticed the “pet shop” with the birds and rabbits displayed in too-small cages out in front of the store. It wasn’t a normal pet shop, some birds and small animals were meant to be pets, but most of the birds and rabbits fates weren’t meant for a loving home(I don’t know how to say this without violating the rule about the forbidden subject and making everyone instantly sad). I had been resisting the urge to stop and rescue every rabbit in the store for about four months.

I had been feeling kinda depressed for a few weeks and decided that the cure was a rabbit. My dog, Natasha, is good at comforting and distracting me from lousy feelings, but there really isn’t anything like coming home and cuddling or watching a rabbit explore and do binkies. I missed that so much. So, as I was driving home and was passing the shop, I just pulled over and made the decision to get a rabbit. I was going to get an adult rabbit, but after looking around for an hour and agonizing over what to do, I made the choice to get Alvin, a baby rabbit, because he looked healthy. All the other rabbits appeared sickly and I knew I wouldn’t be able to emotionally handle loosing a rabbit from disease soon after bringing it home. Alvin was a baby in a separate cage from the other rabbits and appeared to be healthy.

My spirits lifted from the moment I brought Alvin home and let him explore my room. When he did his first binky, I nearly died from a cuteness explosion! For the first few months, I thought Alvin was a girl and had named him Ava, but then when I was clipping his nails one day, I realized that my “she” was a “he” and needed a new name! I wanted it to be similar to Ava and almost instantly Alvin came to mind, it suits his personality perfectly! If only he could sing…

Ok, photobomb time! I’ve shared several recent photos of Alvin, but I don’t think I’ve shared any of his baby photos…hehehe

Whatcha poitin at me, new humun?

Awww, so I don’t get Tanger?

Don’t worry, he can’t be any worse than our cat. Lately she kept stealing the kitchen sponge and chewing it up, so now we have to hide it.

Congrats on adopting! Those Shelter bunnies deserve a good home!

                                                         My bunny is Hodari:

She’s a two-year-old, 4 lb Lionhead. Her estimated birthday is December 10th, 2010. In February I will have had her for two years.

She was purchased from a pet store, and before I got her I knew nothing at all about rabbits, nor had I ever really considered getting one. When I first saw her, she was sitting up like a little statue, looking oh so serious and ridiculously cute, with a wee tuft of hair sticking straight up between her ears. Honestly she was the cutest thing I think I’d ever seen. I pointed her out to DH, but there was no thought or conversation about getting her. We both just thought she was really cute. A week later, though, we ended up back at the pet store to get dog food and Hodari was still there, sitting up sweetly, as if she was a toy a child had left behind. But that day was a busy day for the store. A lot of people were looking at Hodari, reaching into her enclosure, petting her and picking her up. Little kids were grasping at her; a woman was letting her ride on her shoulder! Seeing that and worrying about her safety, not only her present safety at the store, but also thinking ahead to what kind of home she might wind up going to, I talked DH into getting her. We’d had a guinea pig for five years, so I said to him: “How much harder can it be to take care of a rabbit?” Neither of us knew what we were getting into, which is probably a good thing! She’s spoiled rotten but usually accepts all the adoration she gets with politeness and grace. Occasionally some bossiness, too, but since that’s mostly directed at DH, AKA “the little bunny,” I don’t mind. Lol.

Anyway, Hodari meekly says “Hi.” She’s a little bit shy, but if you give her a cookie (an Oxbow Immune System supplement ), she’ll run right up to you and snatch it – because it’s hers and she’s not sharing!

P.S. I would really like to get my hands on Bindi Loo, Bunjamin, Cinnabun, Alvin, Athena and Persephone, Hannah, Bobby, everybun! Even the rascally tans, although I’d probably give them back a couple of hours after taking them! They’re ALL so cute!

Alvin is so cute! *bun nap*

Well I’ve really only had dogs my whole life and we’ve always had a cat in our life. But I never gave rabbits any thought, because like most people, I figured they just sat in their cage all day and did nothing Last year, Easter 2012, I was out camping with my boyfriend and his family. His uncle had mentioned he got my boyfriend’s 10 year old sister a bunny. I thought this can’t be good… A few days after Easter, his sister got the new baby bunny she named “Tiny” because it was so small and it “fit” inside a small 10 gallon aquarium which they were keeping her in I told her “You can’t keep her in that for long, she’s going to get bigger!” Well I got to see “Tiny” about a week later, she was very small, maybe around 6 weeks but already she wasn’t taking care of her and the parents weren’t about to either. I told her if she doesn’t take care of her, I will ask her parents to give the bunny to me. It kept getting worse, Tiny was able to come out to play but they would not bunny proof so she would get into cords, the dog’s food, or any other unsafe things left on the ground, her tank only got cleaned when I was able to make my way over there which was only about once a week. Eventually, Tiny wasn’t even getting out to play because she would bite and get into things they didn’t want her in. We went through a lot of crying with the 10 yr old after about 2 months of poor care, telling her she needs to take care of her properly and I told her I would teach her. From the moment she got the bunny, I was already researching on them.

By June, her dad finally paid her $50 to give me the bunny, who I immediately renamed to Mimzy, she was kept in a playpen in my room and I was to be fostering her until I found a suitable home. No one seemed good enough and I turned a few down, while others lost interest after I told them about the work it takes. In the beginning, she was a pain but only because I was still learning. The longer I had her, the bigger her cage grew until I decided I’m keeping her. I got her spayed, built her a condo, and she is now a healthy, spoiled, 10 month old bunny

Mimzy follows me everywhere and gives me lots of kisses (but she will ONLY lick clothing, not skin ) She bosses around the dogs and tells them to get out, it’s HER room. She has given me a completely new perspective on bunnies, huge personality. I call her Baby girl, little girl, sweetie, & silly girl. I’m sure I have many more but I can’t remember them all O_o

Photo bomb! This was some weeks after she was given to the 10yr old, I took her outside:

                                                          This is the princess now…

This is Mimzy and my bird, Kramer

Thank you TL I actually recently also found out that the girl’s Uncle bought her from someone at a flea market She was really small when I saw her for the first time. I’ve still been trying to figure out exactly how old she was when they got her. I always assumed she looked to be around 4-6 weeks :/

But she’s so happy now and I’m glad I have her too! ^-^

OMG head explosions!!!!! So many good stories too!

Our rabbit obsession started when my step dad, who works for a company that installs drainage systems in fields, brought home a litter of baby cotton tails. They had killed the mother on accident and the babies didn’t even have their eyes open yet. So, I got surprised by a litter of babies who were only a couple to a few days old. My mom and I spent hours doing research, talked to a couple vets and found a decent formula we could give them and I started bottle feeding them. I saw them through opening their eyes, moving for the first time and all the awesome stuff of having baby bunnies. We named them all, Twitch, Chunk, Bugsy, Bert, and Ernie. All but Twitch died in our hands, from the research we did it was an e coli infection. The plan had always been to release them into the wild when they were strong enough. Since it was summer, and summers here are nice and warm they were outside bunnies with a nice big pen and a big box full of blankets to act as their burrow. One night, Twitch got out, that was about 3 weeks after we had lost all the others. He stayed in our yard luckily, at the time we lived on a VERY busy street. We got him out of hiding with some lettuce and were able to catch him. He hadn’t let me hold him in a couple weeks, but that day when we let him go he let me hold him and snuggle him. It was a nice wooded area with a small creek and lots of ground foliage, best home he could have ever wished for. After that there was just this empty feeling. I missed the bunnies. Here’s Twitch (disapproving bunny of the year photo and all!):

So, we started the search for domestic bunnies that would make a better pet than a wild one could. We looked at the local pet shop, pet co, pet smart and everything. The local shelters didn’t have any rabbits, at least not within 150 miles at the time. Rabbits are still a rare pet around here unless you’re in 4H. So I did the dreaded thing and looked at Craig’s list where I found a Netherland Dwarf breeder about 75 miles away. I fell in love with their picture instantly (wish I still had it) and called the breeder to see if she still had them. The fiance and I drove that night to go pick them up, 75 miles at 6 in the evening to a town I had never been to. Super crazy. I’ve never had to work with bonding them, they kind of did it themselves. But that’s kind of easy when they’re brothers! They’ll be 3 this year.

And tonight I got a call from a rescue about 40 miles from here, we were approved to adopt a girl they have! She’s a Holland Lop named Izzy and she was given to the shelter by a family who discovered their little boy was allergic. That’s ok though, cause she’s grey just like our boys and I’ve wanted a third since I joined BB and saw Tan’s amazing trio. Here’s the picture we have of little Izzy..

Powder came because we had just moved into a house and we wanted to get a pet that was a bit more … furry than a parrot. Love my bird, but I missed petting something (he hates hands). So, I searched petfinder and we found a beautiful bunny at the shelter named Cloud. We called and Cloud had been taken about an hour before, but they had Powder left. So off we went. We got there and Powder was in a tiny cage, barely big enough to stretch out in and a metal grate bottom. He had no hay, no veggies. The person explained he had been there nearly a year and was not socialized too much because he was considered unadoptable, so they focused on the bunnies they could get out with their limited time. People were scared of his eyes, being a REW and children would cry in fear at him. I look in the cage and theres this little bunny sitting there all docile, she opens it and I pet him and he just sits there soaking up the attention. Not some scary monster that should be making children cry. She goes on to offer other bunnies, younger, smaller, not as odd looking and I don’t even look at them – I tell her we’ll take him home and she picks him up by the scruff of his neck to transfer him to a carrier.

The shelter people had lost their bunny person so they knew next to nothing about them. They were all very happy that Powder was finally getting a home though and even gave us a discount on the adoption price. According to the vet, he was four years old (best guess) when adopted, so had been in the shelter since he was 3.

When we got him home, he was a bit scared, but quickly settled in and began owning the house. Even jumping into bed with us to say “hey hoomans, you’re supposed to be playing with me, not sleeping” and will happily be pet as long and as often as we will stay on the floor and pet him.

Stickers came to us because I was browsing craigslist (I know, bad me) and saw a bunny that needed rehoming. She had been taken away from what the ad called a neglectful home and the foster mom wasn’t supposed to have pets in her apartment, so needed the bun gone ASAP. She came with cage, food, bedding and stuff. I go to get her and she’s in a tiny pet store cage, with pine shavings and pellets with junk in them. Not the best food or litter, but the foster mom didn’t know anything about bunnies, except that they needed more care than she was getting. She also had sticker glue stuck to her fur, around the chin area and on her neck, in a big matted dirty mess. A child had tried to decorate her rex fur with stickers from their toy collection. She was apparently a pet left in the care of a 8-10 year old autistic child, with little to no parental supervision. The foster mom was taking care of the kid and had convinced them to let her rehome the bunny. It was between me and a man who said he wanted the little 3lb rabbit as a “friend” for his large breed dog. So, the bunny came home with me! I opened the cage and opened my carrier and she jumped right in. After getting her home, I was setting up her room and had her out and when I got too close, she hunkered down and peed herself out of fear. She has been a struggle to bond with, even now after over a year in our home she is still very skittish and will more often run from me than anything else, but she’s a fun bundle of fluff anyways. On the rare occasion I get to pet her (usually if I have food), I love how soft her rex fur is, almost like velvet.

Both of my buns are now bonded and enjoy wrecking my home and do it with gusto! lol But it’s ok, they’re too cute to be mad at.

It will be a year in March of us having her. My boyfriend had a pet ferret who he loved to death and Gilligan ended up passing away last March from cancer. We knew we wanted to get another pet after Gilligan’s death because everything just felt empty. I’m the crazy research type of person and started to do insane research on rabbits and hedgehogs. We were torn between getting a bun or a hedgie. As I was in the middle of my research and trying to figure out where would be the best place to get a pet bun from my bf came down with strep throat. His mom ended up feeling real bad for him and went out to the local pet store that sold rabbits and picked up Skipper. I was at work when all of this happened and when I found out I was furious. I had really wanted to find a rabbit rescue and adopt a bun from there. But when I got home and saw Skipper’s cute smushy face I couldn’t be mad anymore.

Skipper is really stubborn, mischievous, and very queenly. She loves to play under blankets and destroy cardboard boxes. She’s a big climber but we don’t have any toys really that help her get her climbing urges out. So she opts to use instead as her jungle gym. She loves to get pets and in return grooms our hands. Skipper has tummy issues so we have pulled her off pellets and give her a veggie and hay only diet. She absolutely loves apples and papayas and loves it when I mix the two into an applesauce.

This is Princess Rosalinda AKA Rosie she is 18 weeks old(spayed and microchipped). Rosie is a gorgeous satin angora/dwarf/lionhead mix (mommy was satin angora and her dad was a mix of dwarf and lion head). I got my sister a bunny for her 31st birthday and I decided I wanted one too because Im not allergic to them. Ive been doing cat rescue for the last 4 1/2 years but from over exposure I developed an allergy and cant be involved in it like I used to be. So when I found out I was negative for bunnies the search began, I looked for breeders everywhere and no one had any at that time none of the petstores had any I liked..all shorthair black and white. I was wanting a rescue and finally found one the night before I was to drive an hour to meet the bunnies they told me I could only have one bunny and I could only choose from 2 different ones-neither I had shown interest in and I wanted siblings. They were very rude and lied. No names as I dont want to bash any rescues. Late that night I saw an ad on craigslist for baby bunnies, instantly fell in love with Rosie. The next morning I went to see her and pick out one to go with her (that one is shown below). I was told she and her brother (now its sister..oops!) had blue eyes. Rosie’s eye are NOT blue. I got her into the car and immediately knew it was cataracts. They offered to take her back and give me another but I refused…I knew we could afford her and wouldnt kill her because of it. So off to the veterinary ophthalmologist we went. It is indeed cataracts and she doesnt have much vision but she gets around just fine! If the vet thought it would be beneficial we would have spent the $8,000 to have cataract surgery but after talking internationally they didnt feel the chances were good. I love her as she is and wouldnt change it. She is my little PIG! She is definitely food motivated. She loves veggies at night before bed, especially carrot tops!

This is my beautiful baby Lady Rascal (used to be Sir Rascal) Rosie’s sister. She is spayed and microchipped. When I got her I was told she was a he, nothing quite fit but Rascal. When I found out he was a she it just became Lady Rascal. Rascal is a gorgeous 18 week old satin angora/dwarf/lionhead mix (mom is satin angora did is dwarf/lionhead mix). My Rascal has the most beautiful deep blue eyes and such soft fur. She is my mischievous one, always doing something! She enjoys tearing up all kinds of things…timothy mats, timothy tunnels, seagrass matts, corn husk mats…if you can rip it up its a guarantee Rascal will like it. She is full of personality, doesnt like to be held but will let you know when she is ready to be pet. If you are in her path she will nudge you and give you tiny nips until you move (even though she can walk around you) if toys are in her way she throws them haha.

This is Prince Charming…aka Charming. Neutered and Microchipped. Charming is a handsome little blue point with a white nose and blue eyes. He is 18 weeks old. We arent sure what breed he is as the petstore doesnt know, but the guess was dwarf based on his size. When I started my search for a bunny I wanted a siamese colored one (blue point to be exact) I had my name in everywhere if one came in, well just my luck, the day after i got rosie and rascal I got a call from pet supermarket about charming. I didnt plan on buying him but when I saw that cute little face I knew I had to. He is my binky boy. He enjoys running, doing binkies, and eating ANYTHING made of willow.

                                                                            T

This is Prince Derek aka Derek. Derek is a handsome 17 week old brown and white baby boy. He is neutered and microchipped. I didnt plan on this one at ALL but I mean whats one more, right? He fell in love with me and I have the money and space for him. We arent sure of his breed either but guessing dwarf because of his size. He is very unique you can see around his nose the dark brown and he has a “necklace” too. He is my curious little bug, he enjoys sitting on my lap and playing. He does bunny 500’s and binkies like theres no tomorrow!

Last but certainly not least is my new addition, Princess Annabelle aka Annabelle. Annabelle was not in the plan either, I saw on craigslist a posting of baby bunnies, it was from the same person I got Rosie and Rascal from and they have the same mom! Annabelle is 8 weeks old not spayed but will be when vet says its okay until she is spayed she is being kept separate in a pen in my room. She is a gorgeous satin angora/shorthair mix with beautiful brown eyes and dark black eyelashes. She is the snugly, loveable, social butterfly. She is always wanting mommy to lay down on the ground and pet her and hold her and rub her chin

So there you have it, my adorable little bunny family!

Kudos on getting some of the desexings done already. That should definitely help keeping things manageable.

Is there a chance you’d have any influence with the owners of Rosie/Rascal/Annabelle’s parents? It saddens me that they are still letting litters be born. Or are they registered breeders? That Rosie has cataracts suggests some congenital issues arising in the litters. Btw, Rosie will likely have no trouble adjusting. My bun with cataracts from early age did super.

Elvira is a 10 month old black and grey lionhead. I really wanted a rabbit, so in October I began searching craigslist for a bun. I didnt care what they looked like or how old they were — I just wanted to rescue a bunny. Then I found Elvira. Her previous owner was an irresponsible college student who kept her in a tiny cage in their dorm room… She was also quick to give her away!! I met with the owner in a parking lot which is where I adopted miss Elvira. From the beginning she was a sweet, hyper, loving bunny! I named her Elvira because I adopted her the day before Halloween and wanted a Halloween-ish name for her 😉 A month later, I had her spayed and began searching for a friend for her!

She is such a spaz and gets into EVERYTHING! Loves running around and isnt afraid of anything. She is my sweet baby.

Royal is a 4 year old mini lop. After I adopted Elvira, I knew I wanted to get a friend for her so that she would never be lonely. Again, I searched craigslist everyday for a husbun for her. Then I saw Royals post. He was already neutered and a lop, which I really wanted! About a week later, he was mine! I picked him up from the lady in a parking lot and he was terrified. He had never had much interaction with humans. I believe his previous owners kept him in a small cage and didnt spend much time with him His nails were horribly long — it was heartbreaking. Lucky for him, he was mine!! It took him a while but he finally came out of his shell. I think he picked up some of Elvira’s friendly personality. They are so bonded and are absolutely in love with each other.

He is still pretty timid, but is such a snuggle monster. He is afraid of new things, but once Elvira shows him its okay, he is more comfortable. He looks to her for everything.

the owners of Rosie, Rascal, and Annabelles parents are breeders. The dad was sold, they started using him because he had blue eyes and wanted bunnies with blue eyes but with both litters that he was the father of there were problems…cataracts..splay legs..so they stopped. The moms had never thrown any with problems before. Rosie was the first they ever have had with cataracts and her sister was the first one with splay leg they have ever had. So they sold their father. Now the last couple litters have been fine. Rosie doesnt seem to have any problems except judging distances. When she jumps up on something high she has a hard time getting down and I usually have to help her. Everyone said I would have a heck of a time with 5 baby buns, so far its been wonderful besides some potty training issues(but we are working on that). After they were spayed/neutered its like they forgot everything they learned, turned into destructo buns peeing everywhere, so sadly they are back in cages until they relearn then we will start slowly giving them space in the xpen again.

Everyone has such adorable bunnies(is there a such thing as non-adorable bunnies?), I’m enjoying looking at all the photos! I have a special soft spot for the Lionheads, though. They are just so oddly fluffy, I love it!

I’m still very new to bunnies. This past September I seemed to keep seeing cute bunnies everywhere and I started doing some research and decided I would love to have a house bunny or two. I know the first step would be to convince my mum. Even though I’m legally an adult imstillmkuce at home some mum has the final say. After much convincing mum finally agreed that I could get one bunny! I was so excited and immediately started looking for a bun. (At the time i didn’t even think of rescuing a bun I feel bad but I wouldn’t tried my babies for anything). I found a breeder that was about 2 hours away and decided to go see her buns. When I got there I looked at many buns they were all cute and so sweet but then the lady brought out Peach and I knew she was my bun she was just so individual and gorgeous. So that day I put a deposit down and had to go home without her. About two weeks pater the lady contacted me amd said that Peach was a cashmere so she iffered me a different bunny If i didnt want a cashmere but i sidnt change my mind because i already loved her!

After the four slowest weeks of my life I got to go pick her up . During this time I managed to convince mum to let me get a second so when I went and picked peach up I chose shamus, well peach really chose him :p

Peach was was easy to name because she really does look like a peach but it took me three days to name shamus. I’m still nit sure where I got the name from it just popped into my wad and it really suited him

She is between 0-2 years old and weighs 3.5 pounds. As many of you will remember, Foo came to us as a stray, whom we found living outside under the ramp in our backyard. She was spotted by both of our neighbors a few days prior and had been helping herself to their gardens. After getting permission from my fiance’s mom to keep Foo, we went about trying to catch her. I feel like she chose me in a way, as with all the people trying to lure her out and catch her with various yummy nom noms, she came up to me and let me scoop her up outside. We’ve been inseparable ever since. Foo’s favorite veggie is kale and she loves orchard grass more than anything. Nanners are her favorite treat. Foo loves doing zoomies, sideways binkies, and snuggling with her blankies. She loves snuggling with Mama and has gotten much better about being picked up and held. She enjoys sniffing everything we eat and adores attacking pizza boxes and soda cans. She will still only flop for her daddy and only if he rubs her tummy. She enjoys checking on Ru, our rainbow shark and watches her tank quite a bit (she looks forward to having Ru in her new tank, which is even with the top of her cage so that she can always be near her BFF, haha.

I got Nala and Duchess on Black Friday of last year, about a month or so after my Simba passed away, we were only looking for one bunny because I just kinda felt lost without my little guy. I was on petfinder and looking through the rabbits, I did see one rabbit named Edward, he looked exactly like Simba! But sadly, by the time I had the money for adoption and a new cage and toys and everything, he was adopted out, so we looked at a shelter closer, they had I think 5 rabbits up for adoption. When I saw Nala’s picture, I was like “Oh my gosh, SHE IS SO ADORABLE.” So my dad contacted them (By email, I never check my email so I had him do it.) And they said she was still up for adoption. About a week or so later, we went to see her, I didn’t have a cage, so we couldn’t take her home just yet. I got to hold her, and she was the sweetest thing ever. She dug at my shirt though and tried nibbling on the buttons on my shirt, other than that she was perfect. I do remember them mentioning that she was brought in with another rabbit (The girl said it was a boy, so I looked at the only boy on petfinder and his name was Sully, a black and white holland lop.) But they were separated I was told two different stories as to why, one story was that they got too big for the hutches, and the second was because the other rabbit got sick and they separated them while it got better and just never put them back together. So I told my mom about it and surprisingly, it was her idea to get both, especially since I would be paying for the adoption fee. I got all excited to have Sully and Nala (Lacey at the time.) Well, we called up and said we’d be coming on that Friday after Thanksgiving, and we did, and we asked if they could bring the other rabbit she was bonded with in a small room to see if they still get along well. They brought in Nala first and I was coaxing her out of the carrier when they brought Duchess (Lilly at the time) in with the other carrier. Once we got them out of their carriers, they hopped up to each other and starter grooming and snuggling, it was the cutest thing in the world. While I was a bit disappointed that I couldn’t get Sully, I’m glad I got Duchess, because she loves me now Maybe it’s because I greet her with food, toys or hay half the time. But she’s always standing up on her hind legs in the pen, or comes running out of her cage into the play area when I say hi. Nala’s a bit more wary still, maybe it’s because I brush her twice a day and she hates being brushed. But bringing them home was the best thing ever, they’ve come a long way in these few months, and while I miss my Simba, I’m glad I decided to get another rabbit (Or two!)

Simba’s story’s may be a bit shorter, I got him for Christmas of 2011 after YEARS of begging my parents, to be honest, I asked for a cat for Christmas, and got a rabbit. My parents had him in their room with them for about a week before they just were fed up. I guess that he would throw his bowl around his cage at night and make a lot of noise, so Christmas eve, they woke me up and we had a gate around the tree so my nephew wouldn’t touch it, and he was hopping around in the gate. I was ecstatic, to say the least. I climbed in the gate and he hopped right up too me into my lap and snuggled up. We’ve been best friends since. He wasn’t afraid of ANYTHING, he wouldn’t run when there’s loud noises, he’d jump in high places, he LOVED to be on my shoulder when I would pick him up. I think the loud noises didn’t scare him because he was deaf, but we never really knew why he wasn’t afraid. Originally we thought Simba was a she, so we had three different names for him, the first was HoneyBun (I always got annoyed when my friends said HunnyBunny. Because at the time his name was Honey Bun, but that’s a different story.) And then when we found out he was a boy, before I thought of a good name, we called him Bud or Buddy, and then finally Simba! I was planning on getting him neutered once I got the money from my dog’s puppies that we were selling, but he passed right before I got the money. My dad woke me up because he found him in his cage dead, I actually cried when my dad was digging the hole. I don’t normally cry over the death of anyone, or anything, but Simba was my best friend, and I miss him each day. I do know he’s happy and healthy now. We still don’t know what caused his death, however, I do know he liked to sneak bites from the dog food, I don’t know if that just took a toll on him or what. Actually, this turned out to be about the same length of Nala and Duchess’ story.

                                                                                                    Now, picture time! C:

This was the first week we had them, they were a bit wary of the big camera I had, so I tried to keep the flash off as much as possible. But I still like this photo.

Duchess has since become good friends with me, before she was picky about taking things from me and then she realized “Hey! This human brings lettuce most the time… I LIKE LETTUCE! I LIKE THIS PERSON!” Nala however, will eat everything and anything so she’s not bribed by my food. :p

Foo will go climb up on the table with her tank and just sit there watching, so I’ve decided in my head that they’re friends. I’m glad she has Ru because she is still wary about the mice because they take too much attention from her and she’s not allowed where their cage is so she hasnt gotten to check them out too much yet.

Thanks! I’ll have to get new photos of Nala and Duchess, but I currently don’t have access to a good camera. I also forgot to add that we were told that we were the first in at least a year to even ask about the rabbits! After we adopted them, I put on my photography page on facebook and my personal facebook that there were still a couple bunnies looking for their forever homes, and I think all of them are adopted out now! I’m glad they are because it’s getting bitter cold around where I am, and the shelter’s located in the mountains so it’s colder there. And sadly, since they’re mainly a dog/cat shelter, they keep the rabbits outside. I’m sure they’d be smart enough to bring them in during the cold, but when I went to visit the first time in November, they were outside and it was fairly cold and raining too. While it wasn’t as cold as it is now, I still worry about the other rabbits. I tried convincing my mom to let me get the other lion head if they had him still, but two seems to be her limit. haha I suppose once I move out I can get a third rabbit. And a couple rats like I’ve been begging. That was actually the one thing that made my mom get a rabbit for me – they’re not rodents. She had thought of getting me a hamster, but since it’s a rodent, she was like “NOPE.” lol. But as of right now, they’re very happy bunnies and very spoiled too. At least I’m not cutting all their veggies up like I did with Simba, Simba wouldn’t eat them any other way from the very start.
