So I am getting very excited. Smudge’s new bunny condo is almost complete, but before I am ready to put her in I was wondering if anyone has any tips on introducing a bun to her new condo? I don’t want to freak her out or cause her stress, is it better to be there while she explores for comfort? Or let her have her time while just keeping an eye on her? I was thinking that I could take a couple of her blankets that need to be exchanged for new ones and washed and just put them in the cage and on the levels so it already smells like her? Will this help? Anyways I’m open to all thoughts! I can’t wait I’m so excited for her!

When I moved Spockie from a cage he had outgrown to a new one, he transitioned without a hitch. He loved it!
I did put his food dishes near the front, some pee-soaked litter in with the fresh in his pan and stayed with him while making happy noises to make him think it was wonderful. (Like that worked – who knows?) I’m sure at least one of Smudge’s blankets on a spot where she’s likely to like down would be welcome.

i didn’t do anything special to introduce my buns to their condos really.  i also put some soiled litter in with the fresh litter so they could smell where to go & then just put them in gently & let them explore.  it took pinky a few days to ‘find’ her upper level but she was also adjusting to being in the house so everything was new to her.  good luck with the tranition!  hope you take lots of pics & then share them with us

Thanks guys! I’m hoping tonight will be the night! I will have my camera ready! It’s just hurting my heart sooooo bad to see the new big cage almost ready and her small outgrown one with her still in it!!! Hahaah she is the queen of making me feel guilty. When I let her out this morning, she hopped up to the almost finished cage and started periscoping and sniffing it all over. I can’t wait

Ah, Samantha, that is very thoughtful! I like the blanket with her scent on it. When I used condos, I too just opened it up and said “here’s your new home and then just sat their with anticipation watching them. But if I were to do it over again, I would use your blanket idea.

                  Eager to see pics!

I remember my bunns ran right in and never left! They loved it immediately and seemed to know right off the bat that it was for them. Smudge is gonna love it! Can’t wait to see the pictures!

Here are some pics of Smudge exploring her new home. She took to it alot better than I thought she would. She tried out the first level within mintues, it took a little more convincing for her to try out the top level with a little help from my sneaky romane trail! Once she realized she could go up there she was very happy. All in all it was definately worth the time and effort… and the fighting with zip ties… lol

Nice cage! Those NIC panels are larger than I’ve seen before.

Here is a picture of the cage full on. The cubes aren’t actually the NIC brand they are a brand from Home Depot up here that I don’t even know but they are the same idea. I think my favorite part about the new cage is now she can come out of her cage at foor level. The one I had before she had to be lifted out, now everytime I open the door she is waiting there and trying to step by me it’s adorable! I love letting her walk out into of her own accord it’s making her so much more bold. And she has sooooo much more room to play, she pushed her grass ball with this little bell in it down the ramp and then chases it and pushes it back up. I’m going to try and catch her on video! OH my other favorite new thing is when I come out in the morning she is sitting in her bed periscoping because she knows I’m coming and she knows that’s when she gets her veggies (which she is now loving for anyone that read my picky bun thread )!

                                    .

how fun! that cracks me up about the bell ball. when i was growing up we had two cats and the one would carry her jingle ball to the top of the steps (right outside of the bedrooms) and throw it down ON HARDWOOD FLOORS! lord alive, it made such a racket, we’d all be scared outta sleep!
