  My bun passed away recently and I really would like to have another bunny buy I’ve been struggling with the “Is it to soon?” question. One of the bigger things that have been coming into my mind is in about 3 months i will have to go out of town for two weeks and the bunny would have to be boarded with the vet. Is that too soon to be gone? It took my last bunny probably the better part of a year to get really comfortable to where she was always in the same room as me and always ran over for pets or hopped into my lap at any opportunity. She was a rescue that came from the SPCA and any future bun would also be a rescue. Would any of you have more insight on that?

  No one can really tell you when is too soon, as that is going to be different for everyone. But in my mind, if you are finding yourself wanting another bun, then it is not too soon. There are so many rabbits in shelters that need homes, so I don’t think of it as “replacing” the bun, but as giving another bun in need a home. If you aren’t sure about whether you are ready to fully adopt, you could inquire about fostering for the shelter.
  
  The bonding process with each bun is very different, so if you get a more outgoing bun they may trust you right away. It does sound like being boarded for 2 weeks would be stressful though, would it be possible for you to have a pet sitter come to your home instead?

  Unfortunately the only person i trust to do so will be gone with me at the time. The vet is a bunny vet and they do have special quiet bunny only places. But i know my bun never liked going to the cage since she was 100% free roam. I’ll reach out to the local SPCA and rescue folks and start looking at fostering, soo many bunnies that need love and a home. Going to have to stop myself from trying to adopt them all.

    That sounds like a good plan. 🙂 If you adopt a bonded pair then you can give TWO bunnies a home and they can keep each other company while they are boarded. (haha sorry i’m a bad influence) 😉
