So, I’m going to drive the 6 hours from Pittsburgh to Canada to see my boyfriend. I have no doubts that Felony will be okay during the trip, and I’ve researched and found that rabbits don’t need any special certification to cross the border, but I’m still nervous. Has anyone taken their buns across the US Canadian border?? How did it go? Did they think you were a weirdo for having a rabbit and as such search every cranny of your car? Ugh, I hate the border!!

Yes, rabbits don’t need a special permit but you might just consider getting a health certificate from your vet just to be safe.

I have no personal experience on this myself just what I’ve read on-line that it is not a problem and no quarantine is required. I’m not certain either what they will think but I would not be too terribly concerned as long as you have your passport since taking a rabbit over the border is not illegal.

huh. i’ve never even thought about that. i believe we do have some members who are Americans now living in Canada… i am curious if they had buns when they moved or if the buns were a more recent addition to their lives…

About the only problem I can forsee is that they will think Felony is just too darn cute. Just let them know that both you and Felony are studying law too and you know your rights in case they try to confiscate Felony for being too cute and fluffy.

But seriously I would not think it would be a problem.

This is what is clearly stated on the Canadian website:

                  From the United States:

Domestic or pet rabbits imported from the United States must be presented to Canada Border Services Agency staff upon entry. The importation of pet rabbits does not require import permits or health certificates.

Yeah, I’m not going to lie, I’m slightly worried that they may not think he is a rabbit because of all his fur. I might just have to show them his vicious little bunny buck teeth to prove it!

I was just going to say that! You may need vet certificate stating he actually is a rabbit and not a sexy man. Be careful up there! Some BB members may commit a felony in bun napping Felony – Grand Theft Lago!

                        I’ve crossed the us/cdn border a million times…ok maybe a hundred…

Hooty: Print exactly what it says on both websites-the canadian and the american.

ONLY answer their questions-do NOT offer info; Likely they’ll just let you by. BUT do not be like, oh I have this bunny not sure if it’s ok, they’ll send you to customs and you could spend hours there. Now for sure not suggesting you lie or anything like that, but maybe do the border so they can’t see the bunny/cage and don’t mention it/offer up any info. Your biggest fear would be spending forever in customs/control Yuck!

I didn’t cross with Coco – she is a Quebecois Bunny who has deigned to live with us disgusting Americans.

But I second the just answer questions thing. I cross the Vermont border a couple of times a month…and the guards on both sides have NO sense of humor.
I might have him right there in the passenger seat so they can see him and just answer any questions. They may not even ask.

You do NOT want to end up in customs where no one knows any answers to anything, but they will all stare at you as if you are a very dangerous criminal.
