has anyone tried interlocking foam flooring tiles for their bunnies?  i’m trying to find something non-slip and wipe-able to put down on baby’s hardwood bedroom floor that’ll give her more binky traction.  my friends with kids seem to love these things.

They are not a great idea for buns. I tried this once and every single bun chewed on them. They didn’t initally but then I started seeing pieces missing where they had chewed on it…

I think they look great but I was wondering if they were dangerous to chew.

I actually have used them before and my bunnies did a tiny taste test (very small nibble) and decided that they didn’t like them, but IF they decided to munch on it then I would have to take it away or cover it with something. They are cushy and allow for a soft flooring that’s easy on a bunnies feet. I would suggest that if you do go this route to just buy one or the smallest package and see how they react to it first.  I have also used them underneath linoleum or sheet vinyl to make the flooring more cushy.

i was thinking of doing that… i could use them in my basement in the excercise area too, so if ms bunnykins decided to munch on them i could take them away.  i put down plastic sheets under her litters and so far she’s actually left them alone so i have a bit of hope.

They do look cool though.  I just bought 4 of those beach grass mats!  What a disaster – they slip and slide and get all jumbled up.  Then Edson did this diggy thing which he has NEVER done before!   Maybe though a grass mat over the foam would work.

thats an idea.  i think thats why she hasnt disturbed the plastic… i have lots of things for her to chew on scattered over it to distract her.  i was thinking of picking up some unfinished pine L-shaped trim strips & covering the edges some how – which would be where she’d try to munch if anywhere.  not sure how i’d secure it to the edges yet but its a thought.

knowltons – are you using the beach grass mats for flooring in their pen or cage? (I use them to cover hot spots so they’ll chew on those instead) IF you are using them for flooring in a pen or cage, you can get zip ties and poke them through the mat and fasten them to the edges of the pen or cage.

well, I’m not sure if this is what knowltons is talking about, but this is the type we sell in the store.https://binkybunny.com/Default.aspx?tabid=55&txtSearch=straw&List=1

Ooo! I have an unopened package of those in my basement, and I never thought of putting them down for Warren.  I have all hardwood floors now, and I keep the condo on top of an old sheet, but he likes to dig at the corners in the middle of the night.  I did just buy a remnant of Naugahyde at the fabric store, which I was thinking of putting down under the cage, but maybe I’ll try the foam squares underneath.

Sorry I should have been more clear on the mats. You know the big kinds that roll up that are about 4 feet by 2 feet that people use at the beach? See link below. Usually all the big drug stores have them closer to summer and places like Cost Plus. I actually ordered them online at a beach store because no one has them this time of year. Anyway not using them in the cage but outside the xpen door for access to the great big world. I was trying to cover my hardwood floors. But they just slip and slide so that cheap linoleum works better but I just hate how it looks. This is my office and I’d like it to look a little ok with el rabbit in there! The mats would would be great over some non slip base though.

I use office chair mats to protect my floors, they go under the cage and just around the edges to protect from water bottle spills or pee that mysteriously happens outside the cage

The office chair mats are a good idea! I’m thinking of making a NIC cube cage this weekend for my buns and that would be great for the bottom. I can cover it with blankies and grass mats. Once I’m done I’ll send a pic so you guys can see! I’ve got some ideas from this website and I can’t wait!

                                    Thanks for the suggestion!

                                      BinkyBunny,

Thanks for the tip on securing the mats. I bought an extra large one from you last week. A couple of days ago I discovered that your “grass mat” was Seagrass. YEA! I had been searching high and low for seagrass matting that wasn’t just 12″ x 12″, and ordered two of your large ones. They are more firm than the first, which I rolled up. (Which will be very convenient for dropping onto different spots.) They used to sell 6-foot lengths of it at Pier 1, but haven’t for several years now. You could cut them apart into squares or leave them in strips.

I am preparing to get a new bunny, and bunny proofing my apartment. I am sooooooo spoiled because Spockie was 8 years old, and for several years he knew the things that were off limits. Not that he didn’t chew, squeeze under or play. He just totally understood the meaning of “No.” I love that defiant look when a bunny is caught in the act, stops when told to, then does it again while staring at me.

“I’m usually a lovely bunny. But not today. So there.” says Himself.

Gearing up for a baby bun…….I think I need to work out.

The sea grass mats they used to sell at Pier 1 are now sold at Cost Plus! I just saw them. Don’t know if you have one in Florida or not. They do look great but I could not find a salesperson to help so I left…

Just be sure that whatever grass mats you use they have not been treated. (waterproof, etc)

There are also soft plastic ones made for pets. Nel however HATES them, and she carefully pulled them up and threw them out of the cage. She won’t have anything to do with them. Cardboard would probably be a better and cheaper choice for flooring.

i think you’ll find them at major home improvement stores.  they have ones specifically for workshops too but i think i read some where that they’re more pricy than the kids ones.  (gees i hope it wasn’t earlier in this very thread and i’m just that daft )

vinnie… i didn’t realize they made pet ones too.  aren’t buns funny?  mine does the same when i give her a toy she disapproves of.  it’ll end up ousted into the hall way.  lol.

i want to try these tiles for the bedroom floor that her nic enclosure is in, but not for in her enclosure itself.  she spends most of the time just chillin outside her enclosure when she’s in her room & i thought these would be a good non-slip option that she could get better traction on.  i could get a rubber backed matt but i was hoping for a surface that i could spray with vinegar water & wipe off to keep clean.

Don’t know if you have it over there, but if you do…. Flotex flooring. And the best thing is if you’re sneeky is to send off for free samples, then send off for some more to another address, and then some more, and perhaps some more (can you see where i’m headed?! lol), in your partners name, your parents name and then so it keeps going. My two currently have a very nice “patio” area at the side of their wooden play house in mosaic look flooring, and the lookout of their house has been redecorated from black granite flooring effect to rather nice roman style mosaic, whilst to the front of their property they have installed a very attractive wooden decking effect area. lol

We have had it put to it’s proper use in the day centre i work at and it certainly had lots to contend with there!!!!
