Hello, new member here. I just wondered if anyone in the US has insurance for their bunny. I have been looking online, I could only find Nationwide that will cover Rabbits. I called them and the coverage isn’t that attractive. I live in Florida and I think they vary by state. Does anyone know of another company that writes plans in the US? Do you have Nationwide and are you satisfied?

        Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately there isn’t anything outside Nationwide right now, to my knowledge, in the US. I agree that the coverage is not great either. They would not cover any molar grindings Wick had since they were a result of his teeth crookedness, so it wasn’t helpful for me.

            I’m only aware of Nationwide.

I have Nationwide because a few years ago they purchased a smaller, good insurance company I had. I think they’re the only one now. My experience has been pretty good though. I pay $12/month for one bunny and they have helped with medical bills several times. Once they paid very little, but said they needed my vet’s notes to be able to pay more for specific work. A request and a fax of notes to them produced a much larger reimbursement. So you can work with them to get your full benefits. Not a lot, like around 50%, but it makes it easier to say yes to needed tests and procedures. I don’t know any other companies now.

Oh, get it before you have an emergency. Not sure if it covers a wellness exam.

I’m not in the USA, but I have always had insurance for my buns and no company offers any plan that covers rabbit teeth. It has still been a great help though. The vet must specify what procedures they do and why, and there’s a qualifying period of 30 days for illnesses (not for accidents), so you should look into those terms too before deciding.

Thank you for all your feedback. In FL, they only offer one plan. 70/30 after $250 deductible $10,000 max. No wellness visits, NO ACL injuries, no Spay / Neuter. 14 day holding period, 12 month preexisting condition exclusion. $302.39 a year (discounted if you pay up front) or $27.20 a year. When you look at the cost, it’s affordable. My rabbit is almost 4 months old. I am sure at one point or another it could pay off.

Guess I should sleep on it. Thank you again!!

I have nationwide (NY) and it does cover spay/neuter and wellness visits. You just have to ask for it. I think we pay about 45USD a month, 250USD deductible. I think it is worth it – just the neuter itself was about 400. You want to ask them for the plan called “Whole pet with wellness plan”.

They only offer one type of policy in FL, that is it. Frustrating. Just par for the course for Florida. LOL
