Binky was born with severe glaucoma and one of her eyes never developed properly. We got her from a shelter just after her eye was removed. She was a “foster” – HA! So much for that – that was 3 years ago!
Little Ella was surrendered to a shelter with a bandaged leg. Somehow, it was injured and her owners, instead of taking her to a vet, bandaged the leg themselves. They bandaged it so tight that it stopped the circulation to her leg and it mumified. Then they surrendered her. The vet couldn’t save it and amputated it instead. We “fostered” her after her surgery as well – once again, so much for fostering! We suck at fostering. Rabbits are like potato chips – you can’t have just one!
Ella is a very aggressive bunn because of her past (also becasue she is a netherland dwarf). I think it was very painful for her – I can’t imagine how long it takes for a leg to completely mumify – it certainly doesn’t happen overnight. So everytime a person would try to handle her, she would literally freak. We had to use oven mitts for the first few days when we got her. But she has come a long way. Even though she is still a monster on a good day, we love her just the way she is. She adores Scooter and loves him to bits!
