        Good Day ,

What are some common causes for internal infections and intestinal infections in rabbits ?

Had to bring my poor bun to the vet today and had to leave him there to be treated.

I wonder about other people who leave the rabbits walk freely around the room , aren’t

they afraid the rabbits will gnaw on plastic and artificial things that could make them sick  .

        thanks

        Ralph

your poor bun!  i have no idea about internal infections… only ever read about gi stasis which has so many different causes it seems.  diet & stress, if you want to boil it down to general headings i think.  my bun only gets free roam in un-bunny-proofed areas when i’m there to observe closely, and the rest of the time she has roam of her bunny-proofed bedroom.  when she’s free to roam my living room (not bunny proofed) i make sure she has lots of bunny-safe distractions.  i have a huge footstool thats the whole width of my couch and it has a shelf underneath which is perfect bunny level.  i fill it with paper things that baby can tear away at & this keeps her quite busy.

I believe that most non-organic materials, such as rubber and plastic, aren’t harmful to a bun in promoting internal diseases. However, they do contribute to blocking the bunny’s digestive tract which, in turn, can lead to diseases. And as for organic materials, I don’t usually leave anything edible on the floors, except for bunny pellets and hay as they seem to go everywhere.

As others have mentioned – I have heard of bunnies getting parasites once or twice, but other than that the only internal sickness that I know much about is stasis, and that comes from depression, or stress, or if another part of their body is hurting. What was wrong with your bunny?

Hope he is feeling better soon

I just got him back from the VET here in Seoul ,

I had to leave him there to be treated for 2 days.

I got him back without any medicine, the doctor said he’d be fine.

He still looks under the weather and doesn’t move too much. His poops are more smaller than normal.

On the real time x-ray at the vet we saw an infected intestine track , but at least he got his appetite back.

I’ll keep a close eye on him , Thanks for the compliments

                      R.

an infected intestine track?  hmm.  did the vet say what treatment he gave your bun?  my bun had smaller sized poops after her surgery which took a day to get back to normal once her eating returned to normal.
