About a week ago i posted that I found a cut on lullabelle, I probably should have taken her in then, but I am short on money this month and rationalized to myself that it didint look that bad and it would heal on its own.
Last night I noticed blood on Lulla’s leg, and took a closer look at it and the cut looks horrible. It really scared me, it was late so i couldnt take her in and put a tiny bit of alcohol and neosporin on the cut and called this vet this morning.
I’m taking her in about an hour, but I’m really upset at myself because I knew I should have taken her in and had it looked at before it got this far. She only acts like it hurts when you touch the area on her leg, but other than that she is running around, eating, and pooping normally. She’s actually seemed a lot more happy lately, so maybe thats why I thought it wasnt that bad since it wasnt making her uncomfortable.
Don’t beat yourself up! You are taking her in now and hopefully it’s not as bad as you think. Do you have any idea how she got the cut?
I agree, don’t beat yourself up. I’m sure she will be fine. Let us know what the vet says.
Healing vibes to Lullabelle.
Don’t be too hard on yourself – its very difficult to monitor cuts on bunnies closely because they have so much gosh darn fur over them
Also, they are very good at hiding any wounds they have and not letting you know that it hurts. The reason it probably looks so bad is because it is very easy for a bunny’s injury to get infected, so its probably just going to need some extra TLC to heal properly. Also, it might not be infected, it might be that she banged it into something and re-injured it, and thats why there is more blood. While you are at the vet, just to make the most of your visit, ask them how they recommend taking care of a minor cut, and see if you can get some extra ointment from them just in case she ever gets a cut again.
i feel your pain. unfortunately i have to consider finances carefully and be very frugal, so it does affect my pet’s vet visits. you have to always consider that you’re doing your very best. and some times optimism for things not being too serious actually does turn out to be just that, and things can heal on their own with some monitoring and extra attention. obviously with these buns, digestive stuff is always serious but i’d have inspected a cut for a bit myself too. good that you’re going in & having the cut looked at. let us know how it goes! hope lulla feels better soon.
Thanks everyone — you’re comments made me feel a bit better about the situation.
We just got back from the vet, and she cleaned it up and shaved the fur off the area, it is HUGE! It is the size of a nickel, maybe a bit bigger. I got antibiotics to give her to help prevent further infection, but the vet didin’t seem to be too concerned about the cut. If she doesn’t leave the area alone she *gasp* gets a CONE! lol that will be funny.
We also got her ACL? (its Alkaline something) blood levels re-checked because it was high last time and there was no change this time. The vet said that it could be a sign of liver or intestinal problems, and she said that the antibiotics would help with that. I’m not sure what problems it could be, but I hope that we can get it cleared up. Luckily Lulla hasn’t lost any weight so that is a good sign.
Thanks again everyone ![]()
Vibes for Lulla’s recovery – I sure hope she doesn’t have to wear a cone either LOL.
That’s really good the vet isn’t concerned…If she *does* get a cone, you could umn, take pictures right??
Too cute!
So other then hoping the anitibiotics will help with the levels, what is going on with that? The vet isn’t worried about the levels? I’m glad you kept us posted on her cut! <<>>
feel better Lulla!

Yikes, a cone! The indignity! Hopefully it won’t come to that. Any idea where the initial cut came from?
I CANNOT imagine a cone on a rabbit! It’s bad enough on a dog! Glad that you got it looked at and hope she heals fast!
I’m so glad you were able to get her in so quickly and hope with the meds she’ll be feeling MUCH better soon.
We’ve had cones on our bunnies when they were “fixed”. They were definitely not impressed!!

oh my, good luck to Lula who cracks me up with her antics healing. A cone on a rabbit, I shudder at the though! OY!
haha i def will take pictures if she gets a cone…but she doesnt seem to really be messing with it so that is good. She did bite me when I went near the boo boo, so i think that with getting it treated and it beginning to heal it is starting to bother her. shes actually just lounging on her bed — usually she up and running around the house.
I have no idea where the cut came from — its such a large cut I have no idea. I’ve been looking around trying to find if there is something sticking out somewhere that maybe she got herself caught on but I havnt found anything. maybe it started out small but with her chewing on it it may have gotten larger by that. I really don’t know.
Again, thankyou everyone for your support! Lulla thanks you for all the get well wishes!!!
I am glad everything worked out well.
Healing vibes for (((((((((((((Lulla)))))))))))))
Poor Lulla! I am glad that she is doing well, don’t be so hard on yourself you paid attention to it and took her to a vet when she needed it. Rather than alcohol, you might want to used diluted peroxide, it doesn’t sting so much.
