Inddor Hutch Ideas

I have been trying to work out a better way to house my rabbits in doors.  At the moment they have a NIC condo but they LOVE chewing the squares and replacing one or two every weeks is annoying me not to mention starting to cost me.  So I was hunting around for other ideas.  I have their travel cage but feel that it is to small for day to day, it’s ok if I go away for a week and my Bunnies come with me but not working as a day to day for the next 10 years.  So I found these

http://www.therabbitpatch.com.au/ar…townhouse/ - I like this idea, now the group that make this are in Sydney so I don’t think I could get it through them but the guy who lives in the front unit of my building and also the guy who lives in the second front unit both are builders and hopefully i could pay one of them to do it.  I would then line the inside with lino squares to help with cleaning.

5 days out of the week they get time out of the cage each night and almost all weekend depending on what I am doing.  I use to let them free range in the study but they know they can eat through the NIC barrier between them and the computer cords and untill I get a more solid structure under the desk they are not allowed out if I am not there.

Anyway thoughts I deas theories?

i think those cages would be great! i made a cage like the first link on here but it has three levels instead of two

Thanks mocha, I am thinking that I might see if I can print a picture of it and get the guys in the front to build me one. I have e-mail the company and asked if they have blue prints that I could purchase so hopefully I can get the new cage which will cut down on the mess my guys make! Or at least contain it a bit

what exactly are your rabbits doing to the NIC grids that you have to replace one every week? If your rabbits are actually chewing through that type of metal, you may want to get their teeth checked. Metal chewing can lead to misaligned teeth.

Did you see the hutches Mikebun and Lintini have? They would be easy for them to construct & less materials required.

Personally, I’d still go with an xpen as they’re so versatile. You can set it up anyway and incorporate the travel cage into it too if you wanted.  This thread shows a 2 storey use of an xpen. https://www.binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/a…fault.aspx

Thanks guys. Petzy, yeah i have gotten there teeth checked a few weeks ago because I was also worried but the vet made a joke about how they must have dimond teeth! They are getting checked again in a few weeks when Anya goes in her her big op. I have started painting lemon juice on them and it seem to have slowed them down.

ETA – They seem to pull the wire in the middle of the grid off and create a hole in an attempt to escape.  I am worried that they are going to injury themselves.  I have put mozzie netting inside their cage as well which at the moment they are not touching but we will go from there.

Jersy I found out last week that i might have to move back into my two bedroom flat which will restrict the room for the rabbits. However so something more compact that goes up will work for my guys. Also both mine love love love to climb so that is why i am thinking multiple stories.

I am new on this site and I’m so glad I found this thread. I have a personalized rabbit cage and it was made of recycled materials.
