Inappropriate peeing

Hi, I have a six month old holland lop Kalevi (finnish name). Hi was such an angel before, one of the loveliest bunnies I have met. But couple weeks ago he started to pee on sofa, bed and on top of his cage. He has a 3m cage, without a door, because we wanted to give him his ”own house” and a safe place for him to go.
We had him castrated 11.1. because of that peeing. For now he has kept peeing on top of the cage with pee dripping all over the wall and floor. The spot is now always the same. I keep cleaning it up and telling him no, but at least there’s yet no change. He still uses his litter box, that is in the cage. I clean it everyday, at same time and use same litter than before. So haven’t changed anything.

Is there anything I could do, so that this would not became a long time habit?

Maybe you could block his access to the top of the cage? Or even put an extra litterbox  there? I can see how this situation must be very impractical for you!

(Since he was so recently neutered, I’d like to mention that you might see even more pee marking and other sexually driven behaviors for about 2 weeks post neuter, sometimes (although rarely) even longer. If that happens it’s just temporary and fully normal.)

Yes, it can take several weeks for hormones to settle. They can even get worse during this time, something we called the “post-neuter craze”.

I’m going to try blocking top of the cage, so that he can’t jump there. Really hoping this would help😬

Also I didn’t even know it could take couple weeks or even more for this to go away.  It would have been nice, if the vet had told about this, and I didn’t even thought of asking about the peeing then 😅

Sometimes when buns get into the habit of doing something, they are hard to break from it! Since his cage is his box, he prob figures he’s still going “in his box” by jumping on top!

Is the cage set up in a way that you could remove the roof? Or maybe forgot the cage entirely and have his setup in a pen instead? Maybe a completely new arrangement would help break the habit.
