In one corner there’s me, in “all” the other corners there’s pee

Ok ,so I do have bunny experience with litter training and I do realize that each bun is different but what can I do now??  My bun is going on 4 months, I’ve had him at home for a week now and have been trying to get him to use his litter box, which has not been easy. I realize he is young and yes his testies have descended but any other bun I’ve had, I was able to litter train in about 3 days except him. He is peeing everywhere but the box, as a matter of fact he has made his box his bed and boy does he really stretch out in it. He makes it look so cozy I want to get in it. You should see him slam himself down (bunny flop) real good. I even got it on tape so I will try to get it on here at another time, it’s cute to watch.  I know buns do that sometimes and I am sure when he gets bigger it will not be as comfortable for him and he will probably stop, especially after he starts to use it for its purpose and that’s pee and poo. Right?? I’m hoping that anyways. He is in a 42inch dog crate so there is plenty of room and I have started to let him out in a very small place but for only minutes at a time here and there. What can I do? I put litter in the box (yesterday’s news) and hay. I’ve tried moving the box to where he’s urinated at but then he goes somewhere else. I’ve been putting all his poo droppings in his litter but nothing seems to help. Does anyone think he will get it eventually??? In my area he can not get neutured until he is 6 months old so on that note, there is nothing that be done. So can someone tell me what else I could try??

If he has visible bunny-balls it’s not bad habits – it’s territorrial spraying. The boys can really go for distance AND accuracy!   “I’m a big bad bunnyboy now and *squirt* THIS is mine and this *squirt* is mine and all this too – this *squirt* is mine”

Get him snipped as soon as possible and then clean everything with plain white vinegar.  Then give him TWO boxes – he’ll likely use one as a bed and one as a potty/.

Why can he not get neutered until he is 6 months in your area?

I think neutering would certainly help.

I think also making sure you clean thoroughly where he pee’s will help – you can also try putting some pee soaked paper towels in his litter box – that works for some rabbits.

Yes, the ball are visible, looks like he’d been bowling all night and let the balls lay where they stopped. As far as having him neutured, I agree, will make things much better, the vet’s in my area prefer them to be 6 months for safety reasons and I guess any earlier buns would be to young. Blue’s cage is lined with newspaper and when he wets if it is still wet when I catch it, I will go ahead and stick it in his box. Two times already he pulled it out from under the litter and threw it out of the box. I have to laugh but it’s not funny. I think I’ve met my match. I’ve been thinking about changing his name from Blue to Rador cause when you look over at him he’s stretched out lounging in his litter box with one ear up as to not miss a word of what’s going on, he’s so nosey.

Once he starts spraying you want to get him snipped b4 it becomes a habit even neutering won’t fix.

I agree, if you allow the spraying to continue, it can become habit rather than hormones and at that point, he may never stop, even post-neuter. Does your vet just “prefer” to do the neuters later, or does he absolutely refuse to do them any earlier? I would begin looking for another vet to perform this if he won’t do it. Can you ask him if he will refer you to someone else to have it done since you don’t want to wait until 6 months. Maybe that would encourage him to go ahead and do it, to not lose your business? Just a thought? You should be able to find a good vet who will do it at 4 months within reasonable distance (even if you have to go about an hour away). That’s when most vets will do it. I’m not sure if you’re going to have much luck getting him to stop otherwise. It sounds like you’re doing everything right.

Yes, it’s just a preferance. You could insist he be done now. Plead your case etc. I don’t have much to add on what the others have said…I would suggest you take out the newspaper lining the cage though. Anything absorbant in there and the rabbits seem to want to pee on it! Just have an easily to wipe surface and the only absorbant stuff in the litter box.

Well thanks everyone for all the suggestions, I do appreciate it. I have now been trying to catch the pee and pour it in his litter box and rub the wet paper in and around the litter box.

He probably really doesn’t see the difference between his box and cage floor with newspaper lining both. Keep newspaper in litter box and take it off the cage floor. See how that goes. Also, as suggested before, another bed box or cuddly cup may entice him to sleep elsewhere. Even something raised up on a shelf. Good luck!
