        Hi All,

I’d like your honest opinions on this item I have found. Being in Australia the Summer temperatures can soar quickly and be prolonged over days or weeks over 100F/38C. I do not have aircon nor do I like the idea of leaving an electric appliance running unattended all day.

I have found a portable battery operated fan especially designed for pet cages and carriers. Batteries means no pesky cords to be chewed if reached also that in the event of a power outage, which we get often, the fan would continue to work. It is designed to hook right onto the hutch and can run for up to 100 hrs. My bunnies have a large two story hutch approx 5ft high by 4.5ft long and 3ft deep,  So it would be possible to place it in such a way to direct the air high (over their ears) and they would be able to stay out of the direct airflow aimed right this would keep the air moving in the lower part and force the cooler air upstairs into the loft also.

Here is the link, I found several sites that carry them this one just had the best picture.http://www.worldforpets.com.au/prod…sp?ID=4545

Let me know if you think this is a good idea as I was getting desperate.

It is technically a good idea, and it will keep air moving, but bunnies dont sweat, so fans dont actually cool them down…. You could drape a wet towel over it or something so that it cools the air…. but being battery operated it may not be strong enough for that either.
We found that frozen water bottles are great for bunnies on hot days. They lie next to them or on top of them to stay cool.

I was thinking if I had the big frozen water bottles in there too that would provide the cooling and the fan would move it about, maybe, in theory………

It gets so hot in my house that I am really quite concerned, I thought they could tolerate some warm days but apparently 26.6C is the max and it will get well over that. The only other option is to move them into the main lounge room but this will restrict their play area.

Actually thinking on it. The downstairs of the hutch being so high there is a spot under the ramp where I could hang a small damp flannel or hand towel. It would be played with, swung from and generally bothered but it should stay in place and act like a bush airconditioner.

So if the fan proves to be practical that is a direction I could take.
