I’m worried… why are they doing this????

Ok, I’ve had the little bunny for about 6 weeks now, she still has no name, i know, i just call her little c, anyway, it’s been wonderful, since i brought them together, they’ve been interested in eachother, within a week, they were sleeping next to eachother through their different cages… they would play together, Cortes would show her the places were she was allowed to go, cutest thing!!! he’d run to her and run to the kitchen, run back and forth, like saying, "see?? mum won’t get mad, I do it and nothing happnes"

so I put them together in the same cage, about 5 weeks have gone by, and he’s the ultimate caretaker! if he’s in the mood to be petted, so is she, if he gets scared, away she goes too, if he is sleepy, she’s next to him, the other day i even cought both of them asleep on their backs, he even tolerates her bursts of energies when he’s just laying there… we even celebrated corte’s brithday on saturday and they were having a blast, bunny hopping, and all!!!

this moring, they were fighting/playing, not sure, but they were runing around on top of eachother, she had his fur in her mouth a few times, at first i thought it was him chasing her and steping on her, but when he stoped she’d go after him, and rub the top of ther head against his chin! it was so rough though, i am afraid she’s going to get hurt!! today is my bf’s day off, so i asked him to keep an eye (their cage is next to the tv lol) and he called, said they fell asleep next to eachother again, cuddled, and they started again, violently and went back to sleep… WHAT IS GOING ON????

I will assume that both of your bunnies have been fixed. If not, then I’d say it is hormones.

It could be that she is now trying the boundaries and seeing if she can be top bunny. The putting her head under his chin isn’t her way of showing submission. It is her demanding to be groomed (and thereby shown that she is in charge). You’re best bet is to monitor the situation but let them work it out themselves. It seems that they are still ‘friends’ – just trying to see who is in charge.

hmm, looking at your posts I can tell that your older bunny is neutered, but is your new bunny spayed yet?

has anything changed in the past few days? moving their cage, upset in the house, new people?
it sounds like they’re having territory struggles for sure. bonded pairs do sometimes fight, it can be part of the dynamic, but it sounds like they’ve already had 2 scuffles today. I’d also recommend keeping a careful eye. A lil fur pulling isn’t a huge deal, but it’s important to check them carefully for bites or boo-boos.

Actually, she is not spayed yet… is she old enough?? she’s about 12 weeks i think, not sure though… she was tiny when i first got her,

I will definetly keep an eye on them, start looking into getting her spayed, I guess since spaying is much more invasive than neutering, i was trying to wait til i could maybe take a day off of work too keep a careful eye (i know, I worry too much) or I’m just dreading the day I get to see her in pain

anyway, thanks for your advise, really… have you guys gone through this??? I thought I had won the lottery with this pair, they were getting along so great that it completly cought me by surprise…

Yup, the hormones kicked in that’s why she’s becoming a terror. Give it a couple of weeks after the spaying and things should turn back to normal.

I had 2 females (1 spayed the other not) that got along famously…until one day!  After that they never got along again, even after the second got spayed.  It was a nightmare.  I kept trying and couldn’t get them to love each other again.  Now I have a great bonded pair.  My suggestion is to separate them now to avoid further issues or risking injury to one another.  I would still keep their cages next to each other.  Anyway, when Jessi got spayed it was like night and day w/ her aggression.  I got her spayed on a Friday, so I would have the weekend to monitor her.  That was when I learned that some bunnies don’t like to eat post-surgery.

The Fri she had surgery, wasn’t so bad in my 9am w/ a pick/up around 8pm.  So there was no need to take the day off of work.  Read people’s posts on preparing for spay day.  Jessica slept as soon as she got home and slept very soundly in her litterbox most of the weekend.  I now keep critical care on hand just in case.
