hello.  i made my first post to this forum yesterday.  now i’m addicted because you all are actually providing worthwhile answers and support.

my question is this.  based on my profile pic, and or album pics.  what kind of bunny is my pet rowdy?  i adopted her from the pa humane society and they didn’t really seem to know too much info like her age, gender or what kind of bunny she was.  although we found out she was a she because we felt nipples on her underside.

thanks again for you help if you can.

dave ( on behalf of rowdy )

wow. again stuff i don’t know.  i would actually hope rowdy was a boy because it seems there are less health problems associated with male bunnies and again i could be completely wrong with that as well.

            thanks again.

lolz…Well, I just recently thought I’d found a nipple on one of my male bunnies, so I wouldn’t use that for a definitive..unless the nipples feel like they’re carrying something behind them. 0_o
From the profile pic, she looks like an English Spot? She could be a mix of different breeds though. She is beautiful, I’ll say that! I can see how she stole your heart.
I’m kind of surprised a shelter wouldn’t have a vet on staff who could gender your bunny for you. But your vet will know.
I couldn’t tell ages on my bunnies either. My mini-rex was thought to be a year old and my vet said he was younger than that when I got him, so…

how old is she/he? if he/she is a few months old you should be able to see if she/he has testicals if she/he does then its a boy.

sounds like questions only a vet could answer mocha.

but alaska…that’s why we had to have rowdy. rowdy was so cute and captured our hearts right away and rowdy has so much personality that why we went with that name. haha.

i just want to do whatever we can to maximize rowdy’s life. i just wish rabbits could talk. verbally with us human because it would make things so much easier.

you should take rowdy to the vet and see how old he/she is and what gender.

thats what i’m going to do this weekend. i fear rowdy might have ear mites. although rowdy is shaking her head, she has minimal itching and has heavy shedding at the moment. i’m a little scared of the head shaking but because she is shedding i think it’s because she has loose hair all over her head that is causing her irritation…

thats good you are taking rowdy to the vet. are you thinking on ever spaying/neutering rowdy?

She is beautiful whatever she is – she does look like she might have english spot in her.  (how much does she weigh?).   I checked your profile and she should be old enough to see if she is a he – testicles should be spotted on either side of  the genital mound  (though they can pull them up and out of sight when they are scared so when lifting her/him up it could be possible to miss)

Though they may not verbally communicate with us, they have pretty extensive body language that we can try and interpret. Check this out. http://language.rabbitspeak.com/rabbittalk.html (one of my favorite sites!)

She is adorable! I’m looking forward to more pics of her, whole body shots from various angles… we might be able to give a better guess as to breed.

It is true that females have an increased uterine cancer risk, but that can be eliminated thru spaying. Males also have a risk of cancer, so they need to be neutered too. Really… in the long-run, I don’t think a neutered male will be any healthier (or unhealthier) than a spayed female. Diet and environment will have a lot to do with it too.

                              How much does she weigh?

Lots of bun breeds come in broken black (her color) so she could be a mix of just about anything. Netherland dwarf, polish, even something like holland lop (mixed with an uppy eared bun of course) all come in that color (that’s only a few). If you could let us know her weight and get some more full body pictures maybe we can figure it out!

Welcome -Great that your taking him/her to the vet. It’s important I think, to take any and all new pets to the vet for a checkup after bringing them home. Plus it will help you get a better idea of just who Rowdy is (And it’s always nice that their first trip to the vet is not when they are feeling ick-that helps them to be calmer there) And then you can also see how comfortable you feel with them and discuss when to spay/neuter

Anyways-on breed I’ve no idea-but the color is called broken black
