I have to take Pepper in at 7:30 tomorrow for his neuter. I am soo scared. I hope everything goes okay. They told me to fast him but i wont be fasting him. They also said they dont like to offer them food after their surgery, but i told them i would bring a bag of hay and to give it to him anyway. I am just sooo nervous. They are a small animal practice and have done many rabbit surgerys but im still scared. When i talked to the vet he seemed very rabbit savvy so i think its just the receptionists that dont know what theyre talking about. wish us luck!

I understand being nervous – but, I bet he will be looking for nose pets before you know it!

Bun will be fine.  We are more scared then they are I think.  They fall asleep they wake up with something missing.  YIKES

The closer to Nov we get the more nervous I will get  too.  It is nervewracking.  They get thru it bun will be ok.

Egads – why on EARTH would your vet tell you to fast him?! Thank goodness you know better but that doesn’t make the vet sound knowledgable at all….

Please let us know how it goes…

hi! i go to pick him up in an hour! im sooo nervous! I will post again as soon as i know how everything is!

Rabbitsmba – The vet, when i talked to him during peppers “new pet” checkup visit, actually seemed very rabbit savvy and went through everything with me to make sure i knew how to take care of a rabbit properly since it was my first. Everything he told me lined up 100% with what you all tell me. So i am 98% sure its just the receptionist not knowing what she is talking about…at least im hoping!

Just reading this now, and sending {{{{{{{{{{{healthy healing vibes for Pepper}}}}}}}}}}}.

Well, today is Yom Kippur, so clearly the receptionist thought Pepper was a little Jewish bunny.
I didn’t fast today (you usually do for this holiday) because you’re not supposed to if you are on medication. (I have a cold.) Another reason not to fast Pepper.

                              Any news yet?

Hi all!!! thankyou so much for caring!

Well we are back! Pepper is officially a male! He was either a cryptorchid or just a late bloomer (hes 22 weeks old), his testicles hadnt descended so they had to go after them. He has also gained an entire pound since the last time i took him, he is now almost 4 pounds! Pepper is doing great so far, he seemed very happy to be home. He hopped right in his litter box and ate some hay, then i hand fed him some veggies. He hasnt drank anything yet, but the veggies were very wet and hes only been home for 20 minutes. He hasnt pooed yet either but im sure he will. I’m worried for when the meds they gave him wear off because they didnt offer me any to take home. I disinfected his entire cage with cage cleaner and cleaned his litter box before i brought him back so i wouldnt have to worry about infection. the surgery looks very clean and he has to go back in ten days to have stiches removed.

I just hope everything continues to go so well!

Lol and thanks rabbitpam, just in case pepper is jewish, i will make sure not to fast him for yom kippur because hes on meds

                                Thankyou all!!!

                                  YAY! Glad everything went well!

I sure hope you set that receptionist straight – she shouldn’t be telling bunny owners to fast a rabbit. So happy to hear he is home and safe and sound!

All great signs! He seems to be healing very well. He might even be ready to be more active soon at this rate. Some males are ready to run and jump and play soon after, and you actually have to prevent them from jumping and being too active for the first week.
