        I’M GETTING A NEW BUNNY!!!!!

I’m just a bit excited.  I found Tucker a mini lop on the Chicago HRS website and he’s adorable and sounds like just what I need.  I can’t get him till probably mid-January due to my back recovery but they are going to “hold” him for me once the vet check pans out.  Which it will cause when I took Lolli for an ear cleaning back in October, even the vet asked when I was getting another one.   EEEEEEE!!!!!   Here’s his profile:

I decided I wanted another lop as long as he didn’t have Eddie’s coloring.  Although I would’ve taken any.  I really wish I could adopt a female too but they won’t adopt a female to a household with a female bun already.  Which I understand but there are so many cute girls out there too!  If I am not able to get up to Chicago for some reason, I have a very generous online friend who is willing to rent a car and drive him down here.    I can’t wait!!!

And now I’m having second thoughts cause I’m 31 years old and afraid to piss my parents off. Each have said they’d be mad if I got another rabbit as they had to basically pay for Eddie’s vet bill. But I will be putting money aside from my work bonus and tax refund for vet bills.

There will be another one for you when the time is more favorable.

I think the time is right. I just need to get healed up and be able to vacuum. I can manage everything else. lol Plus, I didn’t think they’d be open to “holding” him for me, so I was surprised.

He’s cute! Almost a dark brown/grey in some patches? I was thinking how different he is to Eddie bit then I noticed they both have white stripe down the face. I think it’s common with broken colourings.
If you feel better getting your parents blessing, explain your plan this time round. Even look into insurance.

Yes, I would discuss it with your parents since that is a major factor in both his care and yours. A bad back can be a recurring problem for you, so you want your support available and informed. It’s only fair. I would agree with Petzy if they aren’t available to help and it goes against their wishes. Another one will come along when the time is right. The problem with him being held for you is if you change your mind (and you already did 10 minutes later, so you have realistic reservations) after they’ve held him for you, and someone else might have given him a good forever home instead. That’s a long way for a friend to deliver a bunny also. So if you get him, be sure and be supported in that decision. You can always wait, and if he is still available at the end of January, you can reassess how your health is, plus how your parents feel, and reconsider then. But if he gets adopted then it was not meant to be.

A new bunny is so exciting! Just remember all the added work of two unbonded bunnies, though, and all the work/stress of the bonding process (if that’s your plan).

I can relate to the “not wanting to upset your parents”. I’m 28 and my Mom was annoyed at me when I got Olivia, my third. But she eventually agreed to quarantine Olivia at her house and then fell in love with her and wanted to keep her if it turned out that the Pasteurella test was positive and I couldn’t bring her home with my buns.

He’s cute. I do have to be the devil’s advocate here though. First of all you are recovering from surgery and that takes priority. Second, you are on disability and if you are relying on your parents to help financially then this is not the right time to get another rabbit. You are better off waiting until you can afford the care on your own of an addition to your family.

I have to agree with everyone. Now just may not be the time. I like Pam’s idea to take him off hold and wait. If he’s still available end of January/beginning of February, re-assess the situation then. There are rabbits that sit in shelters for a long time (years), so chances are he’ll still be available in a couple months. I’d hate for them to make him not available and then for some reason you cannot adopt him.

I am rethinking it. As I know it’s not fair to put him on hold if it turns out I won’t be able to take him.

The financial aspect is as follows: For his own reasons, my dad doesn’t think I need 2 pets of any kind and is concerned about me affording it. My mom doesn’t want me getting another rabbit until I have money set aside for vet emergencies. When Eddie was alive, I had problems with emergency vet visits only. Usually Lolli would somehow get hurt like when she obsessively licked her neck and opened wounds. But I will be putting money aside out of my work bonus for vet visits in general. I had to rely on my parents in the past because I didn’t put aside money first. This time will be different.

I go see my surgeon on thursday for my first post – op appointment and a lot will depend on that as well.

My online friend who would drive him down here said she’d rather I donate to the shelter so if I have her do that, I plan on donating at least $150. She said it hurts her to know how many rabbits are available and how much I want one but money and not being able to drive is all that’s keeping me from adopting. I still have no idea if I’ll take her up on it though. That’s a very generous offer of her.

So yes, I am currently rethinking everything. When I emailed them, I really did not think they’d be willing to “hold” him so I got super excited. lol

                            Who wouldn’t be excited?
But i think your doing the right thing, thinking things over. Your kinda in a not so fun situation with health/finances at the moment and that’s ok b/c both of those things can change and there are millions of bunnies everywhere looking for someone to love them. i don’t think the number of bunnies needing homes will be going down anytime soon, so you have time to recovery from your surgery
