Sorry I haven’t had a chance to update you guys in a little bit, things have been pretty crazy around work and it seems all I want to do when I get home is sit on the floor with my babies so the computer has been getting ignored for the most part.
Henri and Acorn are starting to really confuse me though. They were together for a while and being fine, then Acorn started digging at Henri’s butt again so I separated them. Since then, they have had a few meetings but it always seemed to quickly escalate into circling/nipping at eachother. They never really fought like you guys describe bunny fights, Acorn got a mouth full of Henri fur a few times but no flying fur or anything.
The wierd thing is, when they are out, the one that’s out almost always spends the majority of his time laying right beside the other one who is in the pen.
I woke up at like 2am and Acorn had decided to jump the pen again (it is really not a problem at all for him to jump the 2 NIC cubes, he just knows he isn’t supposed to and normally he won’t, I made the gate to Lilly’s room three pens and he can’t jump that one. ) They were out running around and didn’t seem to be fighting at all. Since I had to get up in like two hours anyway, I decided to let them stay out and see how it went. I’m a pretty light sleeper so I brought them into the bedroom so I could hear if any trouble started. They didn’t have any problems, in fact, I think they were having a binky contest this morning, lol. When I got up this morning and let them out of the bedroom, they ran around the house and I swear they were trying to see who could do the most binkies in a row. Henri does this sometimes on his own but I have NEVER seen Acorn do that many binkies!
Since they seemed to be so happy (I was up with them for atleast an hour before I had to leave) and I saw no signs of circling going on, I decided to leave them out for the day. Matt will be home until about an hour before I get home and he knows to separate them if they start to fight at all and I’m sure they will be fine for an hour by themselves.
Since the bonding thing is so new to me, I was wondering what you guys think. Should I just leave them together and let them work out their issues on their own? I would really like the boys to be bonded before they get to meet Lilly, I just don’t know if it is going to work out for me or not. I think I might be overreacting when I separate them at the first sign of Acorn digging but they were just neutered a little over four weeks ago so I guess I’m still a little worried about their incision sights.
Maybe you should conisder Markusdark’s L-shaped insert in their pen.
I know nothing about Bunny bonding – but that totally sounds like me & my brother when we were little. We would fight – really miss each other when separated – have a great time together – and then fight again. My poor mom!
Wouldn’t that be more for a chasing issue? They don’t chase eachother at all really, Acorn just digs at Henri’s butt when Henri lays down and Acorn still wants to play. . .
Lol, sage cat! They do sound like you and your brother.
how do their incisions look? my guess would be that they’re gonna scuffle a bit, maybe b/c male-male too… but they need to work it out.
They look good I guess. I can still see where they are but I guess that is never going to go away. There are no scabs or anything anymore though.
Well what does Henri do when Acorn digs on him?
Nothing, that’s why I think I’m just being worried bunny mommy here and I should really just leave them alone. . . Occassionally Acorn will end up with a mouth full of fluff, but normally if I leave them alone he will just snuggle up next to Henri after a minute or two.
Then I would leave them – it’s possible even that Henri doesn’t feel the digging with all that fur too.
lol, honestly I don’t think he does. Once in a while he will get up and look at Acorn like “leave me alone already buddy” but most of the time, he just stays put where he is.
I’ve had their pen separated into two sections for now and when Lilly is out they are both in it.
Tonight I think I am going to take one cube out of the separator (essentially making it like MarkusDarks setup) and put them together in the pen when Lilly gets her run time. Then from now on I will try always letting both boys out at the same time. I’m starting to think that the only reason they aren’t totally bonded already is me. They have been getting separate run times which means that when one is out, the other has to watch from their “prison”. I don’t think that is helping the situation at all.
I would try letting them out to play together. Let us know how it goes.
Will do, oh and I have some new pictures of my crew to post too. Can’t get to my photobucket at work so I will do it when I get home. . . That is if the forum decides to like me today, last night I couldn’t get it to let me post them for the life of me : (
Ok, my home computer has apparently decided that it hates me and will not let me post a message on here.
I just wanted to update you guys on the boys. They are still together and they seem to be doing really well. I put them in their pen together last night when I got home and they have been in it since. There hasn’t been any fighting at all, in fact when I woke up this morning, Acorn was grooming Henri!
Yay, I’m so glad it’s going well :~)
awww… thats great!
That sounds like it’s going great!! I have to admit I’m a little jealous!! LOL ![]()
