         Hi, all!

Haven’t written in a while; Reese has been fairly good.

        Until recently.

His litter box has remained JUST his litter box (and occasionally, his lounging box) for months but recently, it has become his battlefield.

Literally, all hours of the day, he is digging in it. Digging, in fact, is an understatement. The litter is EVERYWHERE; I even bought an enclosed litter box so he couldn’t just sling it all over the place but somehow he’s managed to continue to sling it out the tiny door. The noise sounds like a machine gun- at all hours: 8am, noon, 4am, even after being out for hours and hours (I thought it was his restlessness?). And having no litter in the litter box is defeating the purpose of the litter box altogether- he’s peeing on the bare floor of the litter box, causing an awful smell and an even more awful cleanup process.

I have no idea why this is suddenly his new favorite activity but I cannot sleep at night and even in the day, can’t seem to find something to occupy his time other than destroying his bathroom.

Thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

        Thank you.

Have you tried putting a grate over the litter? I’ve used this in the past with success with those litter box diggers. I hate cleaning it though but after awhile when my digger figured out it wasn’t fun they stopped digging and I took it out of the litter pan.

            I haven’t.
Would I cut it to the size of the litter box? He lives in a “bunny condo” of sorts with a tiled floor and the litter box is just stuck in his home. It’s got a circular bottom, so that might be tricky…but it’s worth a try!

Well, I use a litter box that is made for cats and it has 2 grates I think but I just use one at a time. Let me see if I can find one to show you.

This is the one I use.  I only use one sifter at a time however – one clean, one dirty and like I said, a pain to figure out how to clean.  Once they stop digging, I just take out the sifter and use the box.   I really like these boxes overall – I have one rabbit who is a bit arthritic and I just use the bottom portion for him.

Not sure what type litter you use but you just want to use a thin layer and then put the grate on top and then the top part.

                    Thank you so much, Sarita!
                    I’ll see if that works.

Do you mean his litter box is circular shaped or just that the bottom has rounded edges (sort of like a basin)? Perhaps a larger litterbox would help too.
