Hey Everybunny! I just came across this site a little while ago and I LOVE it!!! I am married and have a 1 year old and recenetly added 2 furry family members… Mr. B and Roxy.

We got Mr.B in September from a couple who had moved and didn’t have the time anymore for him, they had him for about 2 years since they bought him from a pet store when he was a kit.  He is such a wonderful little man. He is a mini-lop with such a great attitude, his previous owners never did much handling (even nail trimming and such) so he doesn’t like that too much but hey what bunny likes having their nails trimmed anyways!  He is so great with our 1 year old, they’ll sit next to each other and they’ll exchange "bunny kisses" (pretty much putting their noses together and sniff each other, lol) and she’ll pet him and he’ll do circles around her.  He loves playing chase. He’s a pretty picky bunny when it comes to vegies, fruit and toys.

Then there’s Roxy. She’s a 2 1/2 month old Dutch little girl.  We just adopted her from the shelter Friday. Roxy along with her dad, mom and sister where brought in for "owner has too many animals". I wish I could have taken them all in.  She is a lovable, curious and adventurous girl.  She loves being pet, going in her cardbox/paper hide out and lounging in her litter box.. oh and the biggeset thing is she’s a "chow hound"!  Unlike Mr.B Roxy loves everything and anyone!  When I clean out her area each night it’s a huge game fest with her, seeing since a grocery bag and a latex glove is an absolute must have chew toy! I have to either have my husband take her or keep putting my hand around my back(which actually makes her to circles and track around me to try and get it, and she wont give up!!

We have Mr.B and Roxy seperated for the time being until we get Mr.B nuetered this month.  Mr. B has a cage and the WHOLE kitchen to roam (during the day when we’re home) and Roxy has a big area inside a big baby gate pen to play in all day and night.  Once we introduce them and they are ok we plan on buiding a NIC condo for them.

ANywho I just wantd to introduce myself and my fur gang!

Welcome LopsNLopsOfLove! Great screen name and I am so glad you found us!!! I love it here too! Awe Mr. B and Roxy sound like very cute bundles of fur and I am so happy to hear that you plan on neutering Mr. B. Have you also thought about spaying Roxy too? There is an 80% chance of uterine cancer in females if it is not done (I’ll assume she is since you got her from a shelter). I hope to see you around more!

              welcome

glad you found this site too… it’s great!  and the people here are very fun & insightful.  you’ll probably find this place very helpful when you get to the bonding stage with your 2 furry friends.  i love their names…  very cute!  do you have any pics to share?

i’ll second the suggestion to get roxy spayed.  i have a 7yr old lop named baby who was not spayed and now she’s too old for it.  very unfortunate.  i wish i had found this site AND my rabbit savvy vet years ago to learn why spays are important.  my girl recently had a lump removed which protruded from her belly that was found to be cancerous.  fortunately she did not have any other signs of cancer.  they checked prior to her operation and were surprised she did not have signs of uterine cancer since she was unspayed.   i have my suspicions that the mamary lump was related, although the vet did not mention it to me.  another bonus to spaying is reducing / eliminating marking with urine & poops.  now that baby is feeling much better she’s roaming the house & needs to be re-litter trained.   i’m pretty sure this would be lessened if she were spayed.  this and her unrelenting new obsession to… ahem… hump the dog’s head.  poor dog.  good thing he’s so submissive!

welcome here!  i’m glad you found this site.  it really is great for any questions that may arise!  since Roxy, being so young, is probably not spayed did the shleter say they can do it for you when she’s of age for a reduced cost?  i think sometimes shelters will do that if you adopt an animal who’s just too young at the time.  you may want to check.  hopefully Roxy and Mr. B will be able to bond once they’re both altered.

welcome!! I’m glad to hear how well Mr B is doing with the baby, since many bunnies have a hard time around babies.
It’s great that you’re teaching her how to be very gentle with a bunny from a young age, since young children tend to be grabby and a bit too rough with bunnies, so they’re not always a good match. I’m happy to hear you’re planning to get Mr B neutered, so hopefully that means you’ll also be getting Roxy spayed once she’s old enough.

Considering Mr B wasn’t socialized much before you got him, it sounds like he’s doing surprisingly well adjusting. I am betting over time you’ll really see him blossom.

Thanks, you all are really nice!

I do plan on spaying Roxy but since she’s only 2 1/2 month old I have to wait until she’s atleast 5months old.  The shelter unfortunatly does not spay/nueter rabbits which is very unfortunate since many people do not know all the benefits of altering their bunny.

My daughter was very afraid of animals (even human family members let alone strangers) but her Nana got a puppy and started to somewhat get used to it, then we fostered a litter of 6 (yes six!) puppies from the shelter until they got better. Well needless to say she warmed up to animals, she’d pet the puppies rarely and most of the time when they looked the other way. lol.  When we took the puppies back she kept wanting to see the puppies every morning when she woke up and wanted to see every dog she laid eyes on but still would not pet them, she just wanted to look at them all day.lol. She doesn’t mind cats as much but only for a minute.  But she is EXTREMLY gentle and for some reason just hit it off wonderfuly with the bunny, which strangly was bigger than the puppies so it’s not the size of the animal that freaks her out 😛  It’s very important for my household to love animals, so getting my daughter used to and appreciating animals is a goal for me.  My husband wasn’t that big of an animal person until our rabbit and even more since our second and now her treats them almost as if they were a human child!! I love how much I’ve improved his view on animals!

                      * I try and add pictures but it keeps comeing up with a message saying the process exceeded it’s time* 🙁
