› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › If you met your Future Self…In the Past?
Bare with me, I know that sounds confusing…
Today, I got to thinking how there are things in my life I never would have thought would be the case, years ago. If 10 years ago, I happened to meet Future Me, and she told me I would have 5 pet rabbits that live inside and I would be pretty obsessed about rabbits and have spent a good part of the coming years learning about them, I would have thought Future Self was pretty nuts. Past Self had no pets and thought on occasion if she were ever to get a pet, it would probably be a dog.
Future self would also tell me I no longer eat meat (other then seafood) and I hadn’t for about 5 years. Past self would find that pretty surprising! I like meat well enough. Grew up eating plenty of it off the farm. A 20yrs Past Self used to be amused if people asked if I was a vegetarian when I’d order a non meat meal off the menu. I’d scoff and reply, “people who grew up on farms can’t be vegetarians!” A limited point of view, I know! If Past self asked Future self why she hadn’t eaten meat for so long, Future self wouldn’t really know how to reply or say for certain the reasons. It just happened!
Future self would also say that didn’t drink coffee much anymore.
Past self would faint dead away. “But I love coffee!” she’d exclaim, when she came to. Future self would tell her she predominantly drank tea now. Past self held the opinion that tea is a piss-weak drink and can’t believe it would become what she mostly consumes. Again, if she was to ask why she didn’t drink coffee much anymore, Future Self wouldn’t have a definitive answer for that either.
Future Self would also tell Past Self that she was addicted to sugar and that’s why she has a bit of a belly forming. Past self would NOT be surprised by that and knew it would happen eventually. ![]()
It was actually after I made a 3rd cup of tea today that I came to thinking how odd it was that someone who liked coffee so much (and still enjoys on occasion) was going for multiple cups of tea. And how I came to thinking if I met the version of myself from 10 years ago…
My conversation would probably be a lot longer and cover more then pets and diet, but I didn’t entertain myself much further then that. ![]()
How would your conversation with your past self go?
Often thought this whilst trying to part with w isdom to younger people….

10 yrs ago? Hmmmm. Not a lot! Unfortunately. (Never drunk coffee. Like tea. Always had animals…. LOL)
20 years ago.?.. Now there’s a whole different story….. lol ![]()
Married lawyer past self, laughing at how cute my pet wolf looked while chasing wild bunnies, would have an aneurysm at divorced teacher/writer future self and her plans to (semi?) retire at 40 with her beloved fluffy bunny ![]()
Q8 – LOL…. ![]()
It’s funny where life takes us.
Q8, you’ve mentioned Diana before. Any chance you can share a pic of her? (Here or photo or other pet thread). Pretty pleeease?
VB, I suppose the timeframe does vary for different people. For me, I’d say the last 10-12 yrs is where things have differed so much for me. Coinciding with leaving the career i’d trained in. And coinciding with meeting Jersey in 2007!
I’ll see if I can find one this weekend… ![]()
10 years… lots of things happen in 10 years.
Finding out that I’d be married to my then boyfriend that I’d just met would have been the biggest shock I think.
Hubby and I met online and spoke for a year and a half before he made the trek to Australia in 2006 to meet me. So we’d just had our first visit, I doubt I was looking at marriage then, haha. To know that we’d decided to live in Australia would probably be the biggest thing, since starting an international relationship has various long term implications if things work out, such as potentially moving country.
I’d be disappointed to learn that I wasn’t working in the field that I studied in, however getting to volunteer with various projects and have various experiences would still be exciting to look forward to.
There hasn’t been much in terms of personal life changes, although I’d probably be surprised that I didn’t own a cat, lol. I only got my very first rabbit in 2004, and while I loved bunnies, I would not have at that stage pictured myself as a crazy bunny lady with bunnies taking up half my living room ![]()
Az. That’s so brilliant!! 18months before seeing each other??? Woooooow. As a seasoned netdater and chatting to people for only two weeks and ticking all the boxes, giggling like a teenager in front of my comp and getting the ‘maybe just maybe’ vibes…. And THEN meeting face to face. OMG. WHAT disappointments !!! LOL
Also, my current self would go into a very deep, immediate and profond tristesse if she were to tell her 10 years on future self that she would still be single….
![]()
I would also wish for several more furbabies in my family. DEF at least one dog…
(almost). And a cat or two….
My current self would say to my past self “JUST DO IT” and my future self would say to my current self “JUST DO IT” too… ![]()
10 years ago I’d not have expected to have 6 rabbit tunnels in my apt and hay EVERYWHERE.
Well ten years ago I was only 16 but I thought I’d either be in an exotic country looking after wild animals oooorrr I’d be a single crazy cat lady. Neither of those things happened. Despite being a ‘cat lady’ inside, here I am with NO cats and two bunnies instead. This would definitely be a suprise as I had no particular interest in bunnies! I am engaged to be married – I was never the ‘I want to be married’ type. In fact I was very dead set against marriage. So that would come as quite a shock.
I had just become vegetarian at 16 and I’d be happy to know I stuck with it and have even started making vegan choices rather than just vegetarian.
I meant to say this a couple of days ago when I first read this…. but Jersey, “oh la la” – what are you suggesting?
This is a rabbit forum !! LOL
(and we all make spelling and typing errors, but some just can’t go unmentioned …
)
Bare with me

I think I’ll keep my clothes on for this one….
Ok, let’s do 10 years ago self. Say, 2007. Newly divorced me would be surprised that I was actually happily married again less than 2 years later ( I was swearing off dating for awhile wasn’t I?!) I would have been surprised that I was back on disability and would have been gleefully excited that I was FINALLY going to art school! I would be happy to report to past self that we now have some self esteem and are happy with our (fat) body. I would also be happy to report that we have reconnected to our nerdy side and couldn’t care less what people think about it. I would tell her our 30’s thus far have been great (far fewer bad life choices than our 20’s).
Sadly, or maybe fortunately, future self is still strong willed and opinionated. We still have some close friends and have gained some new ones.
And we have bunnies now!! The best part!! ![]()

Haha! OOPS !
?
It might be coming into summer over there, but it’s a bit nippy for that over here right now !! LOL
My Future Self tells me I don’t become a nudist. Phew! ![]()
LOL – Your Current Self says Future Self doesn’t know that Current Self should say “never say never” !!!! as life is too short ![]()
Well, Current Self says “been there, done that”… ![]()
When I was 2, apparently!
I don’t think anyone else wanted to join me either.
At BM, that’s lovely that you met your hubby and remarried when you were shying away from thought of marriage at the time. : )
Well you never really know what’s around the corner tomorrow, but for me, every day for about the past 5 to 10 years has pretty much ressembled yesterday and it’s time. to. CHANGE !!!!!!!!
![]()
Any plans to make that happen? ![]()
Too many. Can’t decide. So remain stagnant…. pfffff. ![]()
VB, you could pick one from a hat. Write them all down, toss in a hat, and draw one out. ![]()
LOL. Yes that could be an option…. that’s definitely something I do when I go on holiday or want to do something for a long weekend….. but to change lifestyles…. ![]()
