I have not adopted a bun yet… but I am definitely thinking of it and going to start preparing in January of 2016. I don’t have that much space in my house for a bunny except for basement, and I do not want to keep an animal down there. I was thinking my bedroom? If I adjusted some things, I would have space to put up an Xpen while I’m away from home and then let the bunny out while I’m home to run around (I would bunny proof the room, of course!) I was wondering if this is a good idea?

Thank you, Vienna Blue in France. I’ve heard mixed stuff about bunny being in bedroom… if they knock around loud stuff at night and bother sleep? I don’t really know… but I would love to keep a bun in my bedroom, as it’s the place closest to where I would be most of the time during the evening/morning when they are most active.

It sounds like it would work out fine, just make sure that the room is completely bunny proof and you have a secure door so she can’t escape. =]

Thank you, MoxieMeadows! I will bunny proof the room well
I think that it’ll work out.
Any tips on making it even more fun for a bunny to live in a shared room? Like toys, other things… all the bunnies I’ve owned have not been that into toys other than cardboard boxes. Also, any suggestions for flooring?
                Thanks!

I have a bun in my bed-room! He’s free roam in there. He has 4 cardboard houses, two tunnels and several vet beds to lounge on. All cables are covered. He sleeps at the foot-end of my bed during the night. I have put pieces of fleece blankies there, several layers, so he can dig in them all he wants. In the beginning we had a bit of a controversy though, he thought 4-5 in the mornings was the appropriate time for the human to get up and fix him breakfast. If I didn’t get up, he’d chew my hair =D
But now he lets me sleep to 6.30, and he wakes me up with bunny-kisses on my hand or cheek.

I’m so glad you’re thinking about adopting. It would be like a tribute to Cinnamon, that you’d take in another bun that needs a loving home.

Thank you, Bam. It sounds very sweet, sharing a bedroom with a bunny. I think that this is my best option, and from what I’ve gathered from this site, having a bunny in your bedroom isn’t bad. One of the main reasons that I’ve put off adopting is because I feel like Cinnamon would not like it and it would be rude. But now, I am learning that Iove bunnies so much, and I will always love Cinnamon, and letting another bunny into my heart will heal me and offer a home to a bunny that needs one.
                    Thank you for your advice.

Every bun is different – my previous one shared a very small flat with me and thought it fun to thump thump THUMP with his huge back foot !!!!!!!! She was another 6kg bun ! What IS it with me wanting to save these meat buns from their unfortunate destiny ?!!

I too have a bunny in my bedroom 🙂 Lancelot sleeps in my room at night while his bonded pal refuses to leave the bunny room. Lancelot has a cardboard box and 2 cat hide-outs. He tunnels through the curtains, weaves between the laundry baskets, and runs up to me for petting whenever he sees he. I don’t let him on the bed. I’ve heard of bunnies pooping on the bed, but he is the best with litter boxes of all my bunnies. So that’s not the reason. He doesn’t even use a litterbox in my room. He goes back to his bunny room to eat/pee/drink/poop. But I’d be afraid of kicking him off in my sleep. He’s such a little guy! He did use to thump under my bed. Really loud and woke me up every time. So I took NIC cubes and made a frame to keep him out from under my bed. Problem solved. He typically runs around the room, darts through the curtains, weaves through the laundry baskets, then chews on his box for 5 minutes or so, then settles down. I love having him in the room 🙂

Thank you, Vienna Blue in France and Vanessa for your helpful tips. Do you think that folding up towels and squeezing them under the bed frame so that the bun could not fit under there and wreak havoc is a good idea?
Thanks for all of your helpful advice.

Depends on the bunny. Guin and Lancelot would leave the towel alone – it would work for them. Avalon and Morgana would pull the towels out, and shred them, and then get to work under the bed. Just how naughty is your bunny?

Oh yeah… “going to adopt”. So you dont’ know yet how naughty the gunny is 😉

Yohio would tear out the towels, shred them, eat parts of them and have the best time doing it. Bam would consider such a project a lot of unnecessary work. So it depends a lot on the bunny.

Okay, thank you bam and vanessa for your advice. I miss Cinnamon a lot, I will always miss her- but with time, I am learning that perhaps the best way to heal is to adopt another bunny, welcoming one into my heart and my life. It is a tribute and a gift to Cinnamon, to myself, to the bunny.
I am going to start thinking seriously about adoption in January 2016. Thank you.
