I don’t have my bunnies yet, but I’m planning to get a bonded pair. I am a bit tight on cash and want to save however I can. Luckily, I know how to crochet, and buying yarn is much cheaper than buying an actual bunny bed. If I made it out of 100% wool or cotton, would that be okay for the bunnies? I wouldn’t want it to hurt them if they chewed on it.

          Hi Ali_bun, welcome 🙂

Good news is bunnies don’t need a bed!  A litter box with hay in it is all they really need. My buns actually like sleeping on smooth harder surfaces (esp when it’s warm out). 🙂

Or a piece of fleece fabric is appreciated by some bunnies, but you have to make sure they don’t eat the fleece (some buns are fabric chewers, others aren’t).

I would be concerned about something crocheted because the bun might catch their tooth on a loop of yarn and get tangled up, or if they eat it I imagine it could cause a blockage.

Ah, good to know. I wouldn’t want them to catch a tooth! I guess I’ll just have to learn my bunnies’ preferences and go from there. Thanks!

Is this like the crocheted cat beds I’ve seen floating around online? They are super cute! I agree with Dana though, not very practical for bunnies. Perhaps, if you really wanted to make one to show off your talent, you could use it for photo shoots only? I don’t see one of the issues Dana mentioned arising if the bunny is supervised and they just sit in it for a couple of minutes.
