Hello everybody! I am on the horns of a dilemma. There is this super cute baby girl, a Holland Lop who is looking for a new home. She is only 6 wks old! She was given as a present =( to the school where I work, but they do not want to keep her. She is alone in a cage all day, and I really suffer for her. I want to get Baileys a friend, but, here’s the thing: his ‘jewels’ have not dropped yet (he is 4 months old) so he has not been neutered yet. I will neuter him as soon as he is ready, but if a bring this gorgeous girl home, what will happen if she ‘marries’ him before he’s neutered??? Needless to say I do not want babies, but I hate to see her there all day!!! What would you do?

        Thanks!!!

Here’s another picture of my baby Baileys. He is bigger now though…

I just went through this, too. We decided not to get the girl and it broke my heart but I was so afraid of a house full of bunnies. LOL

I have no advice, but I wish you luck.

Can you keep her in another part of the house until Bailey is done? I hate that school’s have bunnies…I did a tour of my son’s new school recently and passed a classroom with two buns squished into a little cage. Makes me feel so awful for them…but you can’t save them all.

You would have to keep her in a different room until Baileys was neutered. Are you able to do this? Then once everybun was altered, you could try to start to bond them.

Your Baileys is so cute it makes my head want to explode!

I agree with rabbitsmba if you can keep them separated until their altered. It shouldn’t be a problem.

I just have to say, you have such an adorable little bun! That pouty face is irresistible! (And I love the ‘bunny butt’ in the avatar!)
I agree that as long as they can be kept separate comfortably until they are both ‘adjusted’, then that would be choice. I don’t understand why they still put animals in classrooms, don’t they realize how cruel children can be to furry little creatures?
I would put on the big liquid eyes and beg for that bun if it was me!

i’m going to agree with what the others said. you can take her if you want to… but they will not be able to be bonded fully until after they are both altered. she will not be able to be spayed until about 5-6 months… then it’lll be another 1-2 months before she is healed and hormones decrease. will you be able to keep her separately for about 6 months? i agree that another part of the house is a good idea. we’ve had some recent stories where unaltered buns have escaped from their enclosures. she will be able to get pregnant before she is old enough to be spayed, and he will be fertile until at least a month or two after his netuer.

Thank you all for your help. And thanks for the compliments on my Baileys!!! Isn’t that butt adorable?? I am so proud of him! Now going back to the adoption question, I might be able to keep them in separate parts of the house, though it will involve some serious adjustment of family routine. I know I am able to cope with it, but my husband… he loves all our animals, but he is not as obsessive as I am… which is good, otherwise I don’t know how many I would have. I don’t know, i am still in two minds… gonna have to do some more thinking. I’m beginning to think it is not a good idea though,… I’ll keep you posted!

I was going to say it is definately going to a be a big adjustment to your lifestyle and not to mention that the bonding process can be long and arduous especially if you don’t let them choose your own companion. Keeping them apart until they are both altered is recommended as even if you wait until after your boy is altered and the female is not, she can go into false pregnancy and drive the boy away and cause a strain on their bonding and could break their bond apart. Baileys is such a cute little furball I think he would make a good husbun. But I think you know best what you can handle and what you are ready for.

i tried to respond to this again when the site was not working. do you have any friends or family in that area that might be able to take on the new bun? they would have to be willing to learn the specifics of proper bunny care, and they would need to agree to have her spayed and provide vet care. it would be a solution for her right now…
