So, I just wrote this long rant about Vader, but then my computer decided to freeze up and lose it all.

Basically, he is very naughty and loves pushing his limits. He doesn’t much like spending time with me, or being near me at all for that matter. He’d much rather do a superman leap off the couch and run through the bedroom and bathroom into his room. I have a large closet/small storage room thats about 3ftx6ft plus half the bathroom that I put a litterbox in with a hidey box and some food and toys and such. He loves hanging out in that room. He grooms me and licks me to death if he can hold still that long, but he’s just so bad and into everything. I’m just that lady that gives him food. Thankfully he’s not a chewer. I just wish he liked me, after all I do for him. He’ll be 5 months on the 12th, and he’s getting fixed in the next week or so. Is this his age and being un-neutered or is going to be awful forever?

From what I recall of you posting about him, you haven’t had him long… he’ll get more used to you over time. Even my little snob Monkey is getting closer to me, and is enjoying my presence more.

As to being bad and getting into everything… to him, it isn’t bad! He’s just being a bunny, curiosity is a typical bun trait You need to be patient with a bunny, especially a young one like Vader. And he’s a nethie too, which makes him a feisty little thing! Give him time, let him explore, its just what little teenage buns do. He may still stay explorative and curious tho, so don’t get your hopes up about that changing, it may just be how he is.

well, my bunny is 7 months old, when i went to pick him out at the place i got him from about 4 months ago he was so small and loved to be held. then when i brought him home about 3 weeks later he hated to be picked up and would run away from me every time i tried to. then now that its winter and he doesn’t get to run around outside every day like he used to, in the morning when i come to feed him he is always sooo excited to see me he runs around in a circles and puts his nose up to the cage and sniffs me he is always soo cute.

i think he is probably having so much fun running around and stuff. sometimes when mocha (my bunny) or Lulu (my other bunny) are out playing i will lay on the floor and let them come over and sniff me and sometimes they climb on me, some bunny’s don’t like to be picked up as much as others, (i know mine don’t) and some bunny’s are scared to be picked up and that’s why they might kick and squirm.

i think if you sit on the floor and try to hold him in your lap he might get used to you, and know your not going to carry him every time you pick him up.

Young buns especially unneutered ones, are like puppies – they’re curious and into everything! Just give him some time and I think he’ll calm down and get closer to you. Nethies are known for being energetic and fiesty, so it sounds like he’s just being a typical bun.

MJ was just like that when we first got him. he really didn’t have anything to do with us, and even now that he’s about 9 months, he still doesn’t really interact with us the way a dog or cat would. but that’s the thing – he’s a bunny. he’s been neutered for almost a month now as is WAY more social with us since being neutered.

don’t give up – just understand that he’s really, really curious and it takes quite a while for buns to get used to you and view you as a playmate. even though now MJ will play with me and let me pet him for more than 2 seconds, it’s still on his terms.

and as far as getting into things, my best suggestions is to get him a dig box and stuff that’s okay to tear up. hopefully he’ll be more interested in that than YOUR stuff.

I wanted to add that Otto didn’t let me pet him for more than a second until we’d had him for 6 months. It takes a long time to earn a bun’s trust and even longer for them to actually decide they like you 😛 Keep at it though, because the payoff is great!
