I've had my bunny for nearly a month now, and she's began to act up. She's about 10 or 11 weeks old. Everytime I go to sit on the ground to put her in her cage she freaks out and hurts me. I generally end up having to drop her on top, pick her up quickly and put her in the cage. The other day she started freaking out whenever I picked her up. She won't let me hold her anymore, she nips my arm. She scratches me constantly. I have the scabs, dried blood, and welps to prove it. I just don't know what to do. I need help.

I know she has fleas, but there isn’t anything else wrong with her. I give her food and hay when I wake up, and when I go to sleep. I refresh her bowl of water 3 times a day. I talk to her and pet her in her cage constantly. I let her run around everyday for several hours. I just don’t know. x.x

She’s young but she could be hitting puberty already. My bun started humping everything by about 12 weeks.

Did something happen to make her fearful of being picked up? A lot of bunnies decide they don’t like being picked up as they get older. If there is a reason that you do need to pick her up you could try putting a towel or blanked over her and then wrapping her in it as you pick her up. Can she get out of her cage without being picked up or is it top opening?

Nothing that I know of. I’ve never dropped her or anything. and yeah it has a side door. I generally leave it open when she’s running around so she can go in and out as she pleases.

Instead of picking her up to put her back in the cage then, could you try luring her in with her favourite treats?

Yeah, she’s telling you she does NOT want to be picked up! If she can get in and out of her cage on her own, why do you need to pick her up at all? Rufus is right… Either lure her back into her cage with tastey treats, or just wait til she hops in for a drink and close the cage. If you absolutely MUST get her back in at a certain time, can you use an open towel like a little snow plow and gently herd her toward her cage? If you keep catching her to put her back, she is just going to get really upset and not trust you.

I agree with the others. It also helps if you make it part of the routine. So say she’s out during the same time each day and she goes back in her cage at a given time. Simply adjust her feeding schedule so that she gets feed when it’s time to go “home”. It works like a charm with mine. I put some pellets in their bowl and they literally fly into the cage.

Alright, I’ll try to do that.

I also noticed yesterday that we had a few mice, I don’t suppose they could be of any issue towards her?

Also, sometimes when I have her on the couch with me, she’ll jump up on me, jump on my chest and chew my shirt, or bite me.
