Hello I’m new here and I created an account on here because of the situation that just happened. So me and my family moved to Mexico and we are still currently building our house. Right now, where we’re staying at is just our garage and my mom is very allergic to my bunnies so I’m not allowed to have them inside. We keep them in a elevated cage outside. I know this isn’t that good but it’s the best I can do for now. Anyways, since they’re outside a lot, one of my bunnies, Cinni tends to escape a lot. Tonight he escaped and while I was trying to catch him, I grabbed him really fast, trying to grab him by his stomach but instead i grabbed him and pulled him up by his leg. I usually wouldn’t try to grab him fast but in the area that I live in there are many dogs and possums, so I wanted to get him as soon as i could. This made him scream very loudly and obviously that made me feel terrible. Before my current 3 bunnies, I had another bunny, Guapo, who died from internal bleeding, and during his last  moments he screamed very loudly for about an hour before he died. So making my current bunny scream makes me feel absolutely horrible. I checked his leg and and made sure he walks fine and everything seems ok, and he still came up to me so i could pet him. Do you think i hurt him very badly, or was the scream also out of fright? Is there anything I should or can do?

Make sure he’s eating and pooping. Keep a close eye on his leg and the way he hops and walks. Hopefully he was “just” really scared by being grabbed. Could you perhaps set up a pen  around the elevated cage, so that your buns can’t escape when you open the cage?

I’m sorry you lost your other rabbit.

Ya I have him in his elevated cage in the night and during the day I bring him out to the pen in a different area of the yard with grass. The pen is where he escapes from. Sorry I didn’t make that clear. But he has been eating and pooping and running fine so far! Thank you!

I’m happy to hear he’s fine! If he’s escaping by jumping out maybe you could make a roof by attaching a bedsheet or similar to the top of the pen so he can’t escape?
