Received this via email; thought I’d share…  (slightly off topic…can someone explain the “soldiers who have been evacuated from Germany” part)

Missed this one!!!!

Don’t  know  whether  you  heard  about this  
but  Denzel  Washington  and  his family visited
the  troops at  Brook  Army Medical Center,  in  
San  Antonio,   Texas (BAMC) the other day. This
is where soldiers who have been  evacuated from
Germany  come to be hospitalized in the United
States, especially burn  victims There are some
buildings there called  Fisher  Houses.  The Fisher
House is a Hotel where soldiers’ families can stay,  
for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying  
on base, but as you can imagine, they are almost filled  
most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave
him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build.  
He took his cheque book out and wrote a cheque for the full amount right there
on the spot. The soldiers  overseas were amazed to hear
this story and want to get the  word out to the American
public, because it warmed their hearts  to hear it

The question is – why  do:

Britney   Spears
Madonna   

Tom  Cruise and  

other Hollywood fluff  

make  front page news with their ridiculous
antics and Denzel   Washington’s charity    
doesn’t even make page 3 in the Metro  section of
any newspaper except the local newspaper in  San  
Antonio.  

 

This  needs   wide distribution

I am a Denzel fan too!  I do wish the media would focus more on this kind of stuff!

Denzel Washington was out with friends, when a homeless man asked him for money. The actors’ entourage ignored the beggar, but Washington handed him a 100$ bill. The man began to cry, and grabbed a passerby and choked out “Will Smith just gave me a hundred bucks!”

This donation was made 2 years ago and he did not in fact write a check on the spot, nor did he give enough money to purchase a whole new home. However, he did make a sizable donation to the Fisher House foundation a couple of months after visiting but it wasn’t the $1.5M a new home costs.

Still, a VERY generous and noble act though. I remember shortly after 9/11 my friends in the south bay were asking if there were any american flags up in the North Bay to buy to show their support – especially car attennae flags. I scoffed saying, “Why not just use the one you show your pride with every 4th of July.” I have an issue with ‘foul weather patriotism’. And, to be an even smarter ass, the next time they saw my car down in the south bay, on my attenna was a laminated receipt for a $100 donation to the Red Cross.

Markus-I think a receipt for making a donation is more patriotic then hanging a flag!!!

Interesting about the Snopes investigation. I must admit, I rarely look further into things I receive by email. Could be a really old email recirculating again too. I’d probably believe anything anyone says that is nice about Denzel ! I sort of think he’s the kind who might not like it to be public knowledge anyway. All the same, the media is def more tabloid trash orientated but I guess depends on what source you go to.

So any specifics on this Army centre and the evacuations mentioned? This part confuses me.
