Ok not sure if I shared but Noot, a netherland dwarf came up from Calgary to my shelter two weeks ago. Poor thing is eight years old and loses his home. When I looked over his health records there was two bunnies at each vet visit so I strongly suspect he lost his mate too.
He didn’t take well at the shelter as he’s super friendly and needs lots of attention. One of our volunteers pointed out that he looked like he lost weight-and indeed he hasn’t been eating very much-just a few pellets; He’s eating his veggies but not touching much else and definitely displaying the signs of depression and sadness. Well he had lost weight in just two weeks. Poor guy had a big broken heart -osing his home and possibly his mate too![]()
Given his age I’d searched high and low for a foster home but couldn’t scare one up. My two volunteers couldnt adopt him either. I have a problem.
Soooooo I am in big trouble with Dave right now
but Chuck and Noot are snuggled up on the couch right now. ![]()
(And if anyone knows of a rabbit-aholics group please let me know-because I have a problem!
)

Oh and yes…he’s staying!!
Oooooooohhhhhh! Naughty! As I was reading, I was wondering if he’d benefit from bonding with one of the others but for his age….but looks like you reached that conclusion. He doesn’t look very nethie. Um, I don’t know what else to add………..
…….just Calm down Dave Vibes? ((
))
*Snicker* He’s still a little steamed but in a ‘I knew it …I knew it…what am I going to do with you!!” type way…LOL
That’s ok right?
Noot and Chuck are in Chucks’ diggs right now all snuggled up-I don’t believe it! *sigh* I knew there was a reason I bought that fourth pet carrier even though all three fit in one and I have three carriers already! LOL
I have two pairs of snuggled up in-love bunnehs! I couldn’t be happier! (And noot snorked down a bunch of food too!)
Instant bond? That’s terrific! Mmm…it all doesn’t sound that unplanned now I think about it…..hehehe.
Is there room on the floor at the shelter for a bed roll? Just kidding – Me thinks he loves the bunnies just as much too……….and obviously he thought’d happen anyway so I guess he’s had time to adjust to the fact.
Total instabond!! I figured they’d take to each other, VRRA told me Chuck would get along with everyone-and he is like that, he’ll hump but never bite and the hump seems more lovey (Maybe that’s a weird interpretation!) and Noot is just sooo sweet, all my shelter buns want out to play, but he wanted out for love-he’d just follow anyone around seeking attention. I was at first convinced they’d get along right away -then worried…but they’re snuggled right up!! I can’t believe it!
I wouls have done the same thing, I swear the animals can which people are suckers
I think it’s a perfect solution to everyone’s needs (even Dave’s who gets to be long suffering and magnanimous, then sneak treats to Noot on the sly. Now you owe him…LOL)
Noot and Chuck look like they are two peas in a pod. They both needed each other, Chuck has a nice comfy place to share, and Noot has a companion that won’t go anywhere too fast. Now Chuck isn’t the odd man out and you have two pairs to keep each other occupied. Three pairs if you count you and Dave. ![]()
Oh Yea – Chuck has a friend!!!!!!
I would not be surprised if Noot is leading Chuck to new places soon!
Oh I am so happy he’s getting along with Chuck. I know those other two rascals (lol) don’t like to stick around with Chuck (they’re like the older bro/sis that leaves the little borther by himself at home.) I think Noot is cute. I do think he looks larger than an ND tho, esp. next to Chuck… so maybe he’s my personal favorite breed: good ol’ mutt?
Oh Dave. You sure put that boy thru a lot. ;o)
May all out problems be so cute and furry!
Very sweet! They look so at peace with each other! But so explain, how is it that Noot doesn’t scare Chuck like the others did inadvertently?
Well Chuck would stay in one place and the others would hop over to him with no regard to going slow (both are klutzy and fast bunnies) and Chuck would get scared. Kahlua would sometimes groom him but so fast and so out of the blue it would send Chuck panting and he seemed stressed. They also liked to pee on his bed, which besides causing lots of laundry I dont’ think Chuck liked.
So Noot is actually staying by Chucks side and approaching him slowly-I took Chuck for an eyewash and Noot stayed on the couch and watched worriedly! Then when I put Chuck back down, Noot allowed Chuck to approach him and then snuggled up-I think Noots just calm enough and snuggly enough not to worry Chuck.
After I put them to bed last night (put Noots blanky in there with him so he would feel he was at home) they ate and drank and snuggled back up, and were snuggled this morning too (I’m lucky this is my second easy bond!)-Anyways Rupert and Kahlua dashed out -jumped on the couch where CHuck and Noot had been and started their investigations! LOL
They know!!
Part of my concessions for bringing Noot home is finding another playplace for Chuck-Dave says he does not want pee on the leather couches! (Weirdo LOL) So I am going to have to buy an xpen or see how Chuck does just playing on the floor if he has a velcro-buddy to help.
That is great! I’m glad you are not seriously in the bunny house. If I brought another bunny home, I think hubby would send me packing. LOL NOt really but he’d be mad!
This is amazing. It must be so soothing for Chuck to have his own ‘seeing-eye’ bunny!
Rupert & Kahlua: baaaaaaaaaad bunnies for peeing on Chuck’s bed!!
More pictures (yeh, I snuck home to check on them and take more pictures lol)

Do not disturb!!

WHY are you flashing that thing at me??

Oh yay! I am still so pleased that Chuck has a friend!
Wait… so Dave DOES NOT want PEE on the COUCH?! That’s very strange. Did he give you a REASON, or he just doesn’t like pee on the furniture? If you two ever tie the knot, you should incorporate this into the vows, “Do you vow to not complain when there is bunny pee on the couch?” ;o)
But anyways… An xpen might work. If it were set-up the same way, Chuck could probably make his way around it without a problem.
LOL Beka
I was going to say earlier that Noot is sort of a living lion replacement, but I see that Chuck and his lion simply made room for Noot instead. Kind of like Dave…
Noot is a beautiful rabbit. Agouti!
Wherever there is a need, the Lord will provide… ^_^
Tell Dave not to argue with the Lord.
Noot and Chuck are just too precious together. It was meant to be, no doubt. *nods*
Oh wow beautiful that solid colored one wow…. Hmm agouti Chestnut I believe has more golden hairs scattered about perhaps agouti.. Whichever it is sure is pretty. Not complaining at all about the color lol…![]()
Now you’ll have to update your siggie to include Noot…it’s looking a bit crowded LOL ![]()
oh he’s so sweet! i can just imagine how happy noot and chuck are to have each other… awww… c’mon… dave’s happy about it too. i just know it ![]()
I’m pretty sure we’ll all be needing even more photo evidence..
I agree…I’m not quite convinced you havea problem so more photo evidence please
He looks like my Marley and Zippy.
They look like a match made in heaven, I think you will have to keep him.
LMAO Beka!! I know-I just don’t get it! It’s leather-the pee comes right off! I have pee on my passenger seat in my new car and I’m not complaining! *snort* :p
Mimz-I’m going to have to tell Dave no arguing with the lord!
I’ll get some more photographic evidence soon! They are doing so well, they’ve been sharing a condo since I brought Noot home with absolutely no fighting-just cuddling. Noot loves the cat condo, but now he really likes the pillow! (I gave chuck a special foam pillow -it’s supposed to help people with back pain -didn’t work for me, and it’s perfect because it’s high sided and low in the middle-so now they are snuggled up sharing it! …its covered with a blanky though so Chuck won’t chew it!)
Noot has no interest in the rest of the apartment. I put Chuck on the couch last evening and Noot on the floor to look around, and he hopped a bit and then leaped up on the couch to join Chuck. I am hoping once they are a little more bonded and Chuck is a little more confident, maybe I can try Chuck in the hallway with Noot and see how it goes-maybe Noot will lead Chuck around and Chuck can ‘see’ where it is he lives!
That is tooo cute!! I can’t believe they bonded instantly, that is definitely a sign that it is meant to be
Beka, OMG, that pee comment killed me, that was toooooo funny!
chuck looks soooooooo happy in that first one! oh, this makes me so very happy!!!!
It’s so perfect. Two old chaps who need one another, just hanging out. ^_^ That’s the definition of the word friend all right.
I cannot believe they bonded so well so quickly either moobunny! I had one instabond before (Kokanee and Kahlua) and never expected another!
Ok more photo evidence…

Ah yes, I see from your photographic evidence^^ you are conceding on this couch issue! LOL. Ok ok, in your defence, you have put a cover down first.
They look so sweet.
They remind me of two tiny kids when they meet. One says “Hi”, the other says “Hi, wanna be my best friend?” The first says “OK” and they’re inseparable.
I love that since Chuck’s eyes are always mostly closed, he just looks so content! If every there was a bunny that deserved a nice big bunny hug, its Chuck. He’s so lucky to have you Lesley! and Dave too!!!
Okay, first of all that little bun has an EXTREME amount of cuteness and him and Chuck together is just too much! I kept scrolling back to look at the pics! Yay for you for taking him! That’s so great that Chuck has a little buddy now!

Chuck: I’m so glad I’ve found you.
Noot: Yeah, me too. I’m happy to be ‘found’.
![]()
I love that one picture, ol Noot is on the watch, isn’t he? ^_^ “Eh, you mess with my buddy, you’re messin’ with me!”
I just love his name, too. It gives me a chuckle every time. ![]()
Do you know, I cannot recall seeing pix of Chuck sitting so upright, he normally seems crouched down. It’s almost like he’s proud! I wonder if he can just sense Noot’s presence? I guess he can smell him nearby.
LOL Too true! It’s Chucks couch and I’m not conceding on it
We’ll see in a while if Chuck can follow Noot and then we’ll try another area. Chuck’s blanky is in the wash so that’s just a sheet-he usually has this blanket up there, it looks like swiss chesse because he digs and chews it so much.
We have a white board at the shelter to write messages for volunteers, including a list of horses/rabbits who were recently adopted. Today, Nanci added Noot’s name to the list and beside it, “Not our fault Dave” LMAO
Poor Dave…
They are doing great together-actually Dave said last night “Chuck seems happier then I’ve ever seen” so even he’s starting to warm to Noot!

Okay, I finally got the song that fits this little twosome to a “T”….
See that sun in the morning,
Peeking over the hill?
I’ll bet you’re sure it always has and sure it always will.
That’s how I feel about someone,
How somebody feels about me.
We’re sure we love each other
That’s the way we’ll always be.
Oh, we ain’t got a barrel of money,
Maybe we’re ragged and funny
But we’ll travel along
Singing a song
Side by side.
Don’t know what’s comin’ tomorrow
Maybe it’s trouble and sorrow
But we’ll travel the road
Sharing our load
Side by side.
Through all kinds of weather
What if the sky should fall?
Just as long as we’re together,
It doesn’t matter at all.
When they’ve all had their quarrels and parted
We’ll be the same as we started
Just a-traveling along
Singing a song
Side by side.
We’re all hunting for something
Something we don’t know what
‘Cause none of us are satisfied with things we know we’ve got.
We all forget about moonlight,
As soon as we’ve given our vow
But we’d all be so happy if we’d start and sing right now:
Oh, we ain’t got a barrel of money,
Maybe we’re ragged and funny
But we’ll travel along
Singing a song
Side by side.
Don’t know what’s comin’ tomorrow
Maybe it’s trouble and sorrow
But we’ll travel the road
Sharing our load
Side by side.
LOVE the whiteboard message, btw! ![]()
These are such heartwarming pics – thank you for sharing them.
“There’s not a word yet for old friends who’ve just met” – Gonzo “I’m Going To Go Back There Someday” – The Muppet Movie
HE’S ADORABLE! I would have taken him too! 🙂 poor old bunny
I have heard of other animals who are blind and death – like Chuck – finding a friend who becomes their assistant / protector.
Looks like that might be happening here!
I agree, Noot looks very protective of Chuck. I had a ‘lethal’ guinea pig for a few years. She was blind and deaf with a lot of medical problems, but she was a doll and throughly enjoyed life. Her pal was a normal girlie piggie and I saw her more than once nudge Snowflake in the direction of food when she saw me putting in down or toward a nice patch of sunlight to snooze in.
They popcorned and played all the piggie games and Snowflake was very vocal. The only thing they had trouble with was playing choo-choo, it was fine while Snowflake was following Brownie all around the condo, but then Brownie would want to change places and be the caboose and the train kinda came to a standstill…lol.
I met a blind bun and his seeing-eye-bun at my local shelter once. They were rescued from a neglect case, and the one lost both eyes to infection. His buddy took very good care of him, snuggling him, gently shoving him towards food, and even protecting him. I was about to try and pet the blind bun (after tapping on the floor in front of him as instructed, so that he’d know someone was there) and the other bun ran over to me, put himself between us, and gave me a thorough sniffing and inspection before allowing me to touch his buddy.
Thanks all!! Chuck is definitely happy with Noot and likewise Noot seems happy with Chuck! They are always snuggled up together, and if apart you see Chuck ‘find’ Noot and snuggle right up to him. They have been grooming each other and all is going so well.
LOL kralspace-I had piggies growing up-that train thing they do is sooo adorable! I had four and my dog would be the caboose in the train…she was so jealous of them!
I think Noot is becoming protective of Chuck-when I go refill food and water or just pet him, Noot is watching on full alert! And when I take Chuck to wash his eye and do drops, Noot is very worriedly waiting for him to return.
I really like that quote
So perfectly describes them! Mimz-that song too!!
Aww sweet.
Scooter over at SaveABunny is the ‘headmaster’ there. He makes sure all the buns are well taken care of. There is a blind bunny there that Scooter always herds towards food and away from danger and it is quite the spectacle to watch. I think that you’ll be surprised how much more energy Chuck will seem to have after another couple of days.
It’s amazing. Rupert and Kahlua were always nice to him, but he wouldn’t follow them, and they never really bonded well. They are too sweet together -I can’t stop watching them together ![]()
