So, Reese is recovering wonderfully from his neutering and his behavior has done an incredible turn-around, for the better.

His litter training is 10 times better and I can spend a lot more personal time with him now that I’m not having to hide my ankles and legs while he’s around…

At any rate, he’s begun digging a lot more and I know that’s totally normal. I’m also beginning to run out of playful ideas for him and I don’t want him to get bored.

Any homemade toy suggestions? I checked the Toy Test at the top of the forum and those are interesting ideas. Does anyone know of any others that were wildly successful? I’ve even thought about purchasing a scratching pad for cats so that he can dig the cardboard safely.

But I’m really open to suggestions! I just want to maintain a happy bun.

        Thanks!

I keep my Lola busy by scattering a few pellets in her hay box. she’ll dig around and look forever for just one more bite. Glad he’s recovering well!

Have you made a diggy box with an old phone book in it for him to dig and scratch and chew at?

that seems to help with the digger type bunnies.  Also that jelly fish idea.  The newspaper cut into strips with the top piece not cut.  Then hung thru the top of the cage.  I need to make that for Cotton.  He loves chewing newspaper.

I had a peeled willow basket that I filled with plain newsprint for a diggy box. Sammy ignored it until one day I turned it upside down. she loved it as a hiding place. She’s in it right now next to me. She dragged it over her phone book, and digs and chews while under there. She chewed a little window on the side so she can watch out the patio door. They like projects and they like to redecorate.

also, some like to tunnel. I had stuffed a comforter under a couch once, and Spockie dug and pushed it until he’d made a little tunnel half way under the couch. The will return the next day to pick up where they left off on a project. They love long term things.

I bring home tons of xerox boxes from work. Then I cut a hole in them that is just a liiitle too tiny for my bunnies to fit through and fill them with packing paper. The buns looove to chew out the hole to worm their way in. I think if the box is too easy to get into then they lose interest in it. Really, for me, cardboard boxes are the best distraction I have found so far.
