Ok so just incase you havent read any of my previous blogs i recently bonded 2 bunnies and they get on great!! Tallulah is smaller than Harvey and makes this noise when he approaches her! It sounds like a sad wimper but she does it when cuddles into him so it confuses me.

Please listen n tell me what you think!!

Like they said, it is a happy honk. She’s letting her know that she loves him and is happy that he’s around.  If it was a “Please don’t be near me” noise, she’d hop away.

            OHHHHH

Markbun did you listen to the video??? That’s the noise Kokanee would make when she was FURIOUS. She made it at Rupert all the time, and they fought like crud…

This is not a happy honk…this is a rabbit growl-IN MY experience…MAYBE an appeasement-don’t bite me noise? But I’ve heard it when Kokanee did it and she was not happy…

I have had very limited experience with honking buns so I’ll defer to you KK. However, the bun in the video does not seem apprehensive but rather wanting affection.

I thought that was very cool. Your bunny is speaking to you. It obviously has lots and lots to say.

Who knows, we willl never completely understand bunnies, it sounds like the noise my dog makes when he is excited about something.

I believe that if the rabbit twiches a lot when and where you pet it, it is a nervous ‘please don’t hurt me’ noise but if it is calm and not twitching, it’s just an overly vocal bunny. Now that KK mentioned it, I do remember a female rabbit making that noise when a un-neutered male bun was trying to get busy with her. So it could mean fear but like I said, if you pet her along her sides and they’re not twitching everywhere you touch her, it isn’t fear.

My GF’s bun would always make the mad grunt noise – but it didn’t mean she was upset.  She just liked to grunt at everything and sometimes at nothing.

My Gracie will make that noise when you hold her, sometimes have my hands by her neck to pet her for awhile (must have been something with previous owners) or when we do her nails….I feel so bad when I have to do that and she makes that noise. Gracie also grunts for no reason at all, she grunts when she hops into a room..maybe to say “Hey I’m coming over!” She also makes that little weezey nose when she’s in a really deep sleep, like maybe she’s having a nightmare or something. She is the most vocal of our buns haha!

Sometimes bunnies can learn to use one sound or behavior for a completely other purpose. For example, Jack used to lunge to “scare” off people, but then when he realized he could get affection, he sort of learned that he could use that same behavior for a positive purpose. I’ve never had a bunny honk like that one in the video – very cute!

Agreed totally. Really I dont’ know what Kokanee meant with that sound, but she did it around Rupert (and she actively sought him to fight) so I assume it’s angry but really who knows?

I guess really her body language is what you want to watch for, and go with your gut. Whatever she’s ‘saying’ Harvey probably understands.

That noise is so cute! I agree with Mark that she doesn’t seem nervous or scared at all in this situation. It’s such a strange loud noise! The only noice my bun has ever made is a grunt when he’s very angry – like when we pick him up or clip his nails and he wants nothing to do with it.

                            Very cute!

Thanks for all the feedback!! I totally agree that we’ll never actually know what or buns are thinking!!!

Tallulah absoloutly loves harvey and is starting to mimick him by jumping on and off couch (not sure if thats a great thing to learn &#160

and she follows him about to cuddle in so im taking the noise as a hello and maybe please dont hurt me! Its still only been 11 days since

we got harvey and they were sharing the cage after 5 days so im very happy with the bonding!!!

When we rescued him they said he got on brilliant with the previous cat and dog but he actually tried to bite my dog today… poor wee thing was terrified – wee king charles who’s used to cuddling into (literally) tallulah!!!  aaahh well….

Then that’s what you go by No matter that Kokanee said the same things to her nemesis-it obviously doesn’t mean the same thign to her-because she obviously likes him. IF they are bonded and doing well I wouldn’t worry too much about the noises

Lol I played the video and Indy’s ears started moving all over. He was very interested in her noise! My buns haven’t made noises at me so I have no idea!

My 1st bunny would do it when i came home from university, he knew he would be able to play around the house, so he got very excited.

Monkey likes to grunt at my hubby.. and then climb all over him looking for raisins he may have hidden. I think she does it just to see him squirm at thinking she’s mad at him, when she probably just likes making him make noises and wiggle. Funny bunny. She’s never grunted at me
