Just wanted to share that I was very lucky and found a LOCAL vet by complete accident today.  I didn’t realize when I got Layla that a coworker of mine has a house bunny too so last night we sat and gabbed about all things bunny, and turns out she goes to an animal clinic in town that on one day a week has a rabbit specialist!  Of course, it may not be great for emergencies but at least I have someone to take her in to for routine checkups and I’m sure he’s got some recommendations for emergency situations too!

        Needless to say, I’m excited.

Also, I came home from work to this today.  hehe…  she’s a fur puddle.

oh thats fabulous!  i’m sure in an emergency situation the rabbit-savvy vet is available to the other vets there by phone.  it’s great to find a vet through a referal… thats how i found my current vet.  she’s verrry expensive but well worth it imho.  she performed a lumpectomy on baby girl nov ’07 and a spay on pinky poo this past april and has a fabulous bedside manner.

That’s great news! It would be good to take her in for an initial checkup too that way you can meet him and talk with him about her upcoming spay. I find that it is good to have a relationship with a vet before an emergency happens.

Yeah I thought about that.  I’ll definitely take her in as soon as I can!

that’s fantastic! it’s not easy to find a good bunny vet. I agree with Sarita’s suggestion, having a healthy bun visit is always a good idea.

oh good! recommendations are awesome! plus your coworker can help you out with bunny things in “real life” too! you might want to ask her where she goes in case of emergencies… if she calls the vet office or if there is a 24 hour vet somewhere that also works with rabbits. it never hurts to have a couple names… just in case.

I did ask her about emergencies and she said she’s never had one and never thought about it before.  Ever the worry wart am I…
