Hello, I have had my bunny for several months now and he has been very active. He is a 6-7 months old and is at the time not spayed.

I have noticed that he has been sometimes honking/snorting lately. He does this  sometimes when he eats and sometimes when he lies down with me he makes some sort of snuffing noises. He has been playing a lot and he eating and pooping normally. We did used to keep him in an area that had hardwood but now he is in a different room with carpet.  I dont know if the carpet may be affecting him in some way or if he is having a hard time breathing. Im pretty worried and if anyone could let me know if this is normal or not that would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

          Hi Angelica

Given his age, I would guess at it being some hormonal sounds he’s making. Some will do this just hopping around. Some when excited by food etc.  That said, I have heard of a rabbit becoming sensitive to carpet before and it causing some sneezing!  You could try him back in the previous area and see it that makes a difference.

Is he a lop or dwarf breed bunny? Sometimes those with shorter faces can sound more vocal and snore when napping.

If he’s behaving normally otherwise, not sneezing and doesnt have discharge, I wouldn’t be overly concerned. If he is labouring to breath you might notice the nose feels damp.

Hi thank you for responding!!! This is such a relief to hear I really appreciate it. He is a Hollandlop. And yes he doesn’t sneeze much at all and his nose is not wet and no discharge.
              Again thank you so much!
