I can keep my Chubby!! Now questions!

So I had quite the depressing post here a few weeks ago, I was going to move into a reallllly teenny tiny apartment, but since things have changed WE GOT A HOUSE . So happy. I can keep both my rabbits so now I have a few questions regarding “fixing”. 

I now have intentions to bond my 2 male rabbits now that we are moving – perfect neutral territory! But the problem – Charlie is fixed, chubby is not. Charlie’s neutering cost was 300$ +. Is there any cheaper vets in Ohio that are rabbit savy? Its kinda ridiculous, you can go and get a large dog fixed for 100$ or less but a rabbit 300$ ?!?! GAH. Fat rabbit is killing the wallet! I know I went to the best vet in my area , but I am willing to travel a bit. If the time comes and I have to pay the 300$ again but I have a few weeks and extra time to do some research so I though I would start here!

Also once I move, before I start bonding the bunnies will have separate large dog pens, is it ok to put them on the opposite side of the same room? I have bonded rabbits before but this time I want to take it nice and slow. A

It’s usually more expensive for a bunny because they require more specialized, extra, training. Which = more money

You can keep them in the same room, as long as they can’t get to each other at all. And definitely wait to start bonding til Chubby is fixed

That’s great news!! Good luck with the vet search. My vet charges about the same for a bunny as a cat.

You really just need to call around. You can also contact local rescues or HRS and see if they have any recommendations for cheaper neuters. Neuters are usually less than a spay since they are not as invasive, but I haven’t altered a rabbit in years, so I haven’t kept up with pricing.

How far are you from Ann Arbor, MI? I know some parts of Ohio are close to MI and I have a really good vet who did Bunjamin’s neuter for about $150 with meds and sub-q fluids.

You can always check with some Humane Societies around you. Many of Humane Societies give out vouchers that cut costs on spaying and neutering to around $100-$150 per rabbit. Males tend to be cheaper than females because of how invasive spaying is compared to neutering. My vouchers for my boy, Pan, cost $55 and all I had to pay was for anesthesia, which was around $35 (along with some Critical Care cause Pan didn’t was to eat afterward so that boosted my cost, but you don’t need to expect that).

My vet was $120, if I remember right. I don’t live in Ohio though. I know the prices vary, depending on where you live. I would definitely call around though.
