much and I hope we can unite and email this lady to tell her how wrong it is of her to be

doing this! I hope we can somehow stop her from continuing this! I hope I don’t upset

binkybunny because thats not my intention!

I’d like to preface this post by saying that I debated quite a bit over whether or not to write it. I hope I’m making the right decision.

For those of you who remember the Save Toby debacle, or even those "Save So-and-so" scams a few years back (people begging for money to pay off bills, etc.), this will ring painfully familiar.

A 24 year-old woman is claiming to be holding her pet rabbit up for a kind of life-or-death auction. Whether the rabbit lives or is cooked and eaten depends on which of her websites, Save Floppy or Cook Floppy, generates more money.

The woman is hoping to collect $100,000 to pay off her student loans, and has created an entire website around the scheme: polls, contests — even merchandise. And then there’s this. If "Cook Floppy" wins, she will sell tickets to a live internet broadcast of the rabbit being eaten.

Normally, I wouldn’t want to give something like this any more free publicity, but the woman has actually posted her contact info on the site. Which means that I, you, and everyone we know can write to say exactly what we think of her plan. Perhaps if enough people voice their disgust, she’ll pursue other avenues of fundraising.

Of course, she’s entirely within her legal rights doing this. And one could argue that as her pet, she has the right to do with the rabbit as she chooses.

But in my opinion, animals are not toys, and their lives shouldn’t be poker chips in a ploy to raise cash. To trivialize an animal’s life in this way is immoral and reckless, and can lead to all sorts of dangerous and unethical copycat acts.

Personally,  I think it is a stunt and she wants a reaction, which she will get if people respond to her.

This sad person obviously needs help big time.

I recall another idiot posting something very similar last year about he was going to eat his pet rabbit if he did not get $$$.

And if SHE is SO intent on protesting she’s not violating the law, then why the hell has she got a "complaints" email?? Surely she wouldn’t give a monkey’s chuff about any complaints?? It’s all a load of ol’ fanny in my opinion. You can’t call yourself an animal lover then raffle off your pet’s life, being more than happy to eat your beloved for the sick joy of sickos.
Don’t stress too much Floppy, "she will sell tickets to a live internet broadcast of the rabbit being eaten." Has she half-wittedly cleverly worded this so as to make it appear you will see her eat her rabbit? Says nowt about seeing her kill, skin, cook the poor thing.

This is just some sick person’s way to get money and attention.  The savetoby thing ended up being all over the media and many places like Hoax-slayer.com and snopes claimed it to be a hoax.  And there has been a savefluffy since and now this….it’s all the same twisted way to get money and attention.

These are the tips from Humane Society of the United States

1.  Hard as it is not to give the person a piece of your mind: DO NOT CONTACT THE PERSON. 

My comments: They thrive on it.  They are absolutely aware of what they are doing and they look forward to your angry emails.  This allows them to torture you more and helps them ensure you will continue to get angry and spread the news. They know exactly what they are doing.  I mean look at what they are doing in the first place – they get a sick pleasure out of this. They are the worst kind of emotional  and attention parasite, so don’t respond to them. They love it.   Basically they fit into the "people suck" category, and so just brush them off like a useless piece of…"

 The only reason I am keeping this in the forum, is because I know this is spreading around the rabbit community, and I want to offer some solid advice about how to respond to this.

I am so grossed out by reading this to the point that I think I’m having an unpleasant visceral reaction.   What a disgusting "hoax" either way.  My heart just can’t really grasp onto this type of wacko mentality.  The very idea that someone came UP with this boggles the sane mind.

I think the best, smartest way to combat things like this is to see them publicly denounced as hoaxes, because then it takes some of their power away.   I’m honestly just disgusted.   But identified as a hoax is better than identified as "legit."

It is always a noble, and often effective, thing to communicate your opposition diplomatically and rationally to another *rational, openminded* person on an issue you are passionate about.  In this case, I have got to agree wholeheartedly that the more feedback…positive OR negative…this woman gets, the more it stokes the flames of her mentally derranged fire.  I’d like to see a loophole found that proves she is scamming (law enforcement should follow up to see what she uses the money for), and then see two websites allowing the public to vote on which way she will find legal recourse:  jail, or being cooked and served for dinner.

It’s a shame there is not legislation in place to compartmentalize a requirement for rabbits who are rescued, adopted, or purchased under the category of "pets."  Meat rabbits, one would *think,* would be under an entirely different category…but I suppose not if you are not selling them or licensed as an FDA approved livestock business.   It seems to me that perhaps we could more strictly create and enforce contracts for adopting bunny parents.   Where did this woman get this rabbit from, if she has it?  Under what premise did she acquire it?  Is the "save or cook" thing the only part of the scam, or does she NOT even have a bunny in her possession (best case scenario)? 

We need better communication in the animal community on how to deal with these sick people. Sadly, it seems that there are many people out there in this wide, wide world who care…but did not know how to act in a way that doesn’t encourage this sort of thing.  Was the money made up, too…or have people really sent this money to her?

I know with the other sites, they found it to be a hoax. Though I’m sure some people sent money, and they made money off merchandising t-shirts etc, like this one is, a bunny was actually never seen and the pictures of the supposedly same bunny were of similar but different bunnies. The thing is that ONCE a bunny is killed, then it can be an animal cruelty case in this instance, soooo, if there was a bunny, I doubt that the person would actually go ahead and do it only to face charges. Hiking up the numbers falsly to the “save” side is what they would be more likely to do.

SO that’s why it’s best just to follow the above advice.

I agree with you guys. This is most likely a hoax posted by someone ignorant enough to do so;Also this person is likely too mentally retarded to think of a legitimate way to make money, or is so cruel and socially unacceptable to get a REAL job; My guess is that she doesn’t even own a rabbit!!

My guess, although I’m not totally sure, is that you couldn’t actually eat an animal that was euthanized…Also, I would think it would be hard to find a veterinarian who, after euthanizing a healthy animal for an owner, would release the body to the owner??? Imean, they would most likely give you your pet for buriel after you had it euthanized for a sickness or something…But if you just waltzed in with a healthy pet, paid to have it put to sleep and then asked for the body…Well I don’t know if legally they could say no, but that would be a definite red flag!!

Anyways just wanted to add my two cents and hopefully calm someone down! I know how you feel when you read about people who do crappy things to pets. Right now in my city there is some sicko mutilating cats….One cat was even taken off a leash from someone’s backyard!!! It’s really terrible what some people do!

I’m glad you’re brushing it off.  On a legal side note, wouldn’t what this person is doing be considered extortion? Also, if she is making a tidy profit off of this, I hope that she is reporting it to the IRS or she may just owe more than student loans. Anyway, karma has its way of coming back around, so try to know that in its own way, the universe is going to come back around and whack her square on the fanny.
