Hello! I have an indoor- free ranging bunny who is VERY messy! he absolutely loves to pull hay out of his litter box and spread it around my floor haha. Anyways, i was thinking of getting a hutch as a “home base” because he currently has an x pen and I just think its is hideous, and takes up too much space. He isn’t even in it much because he spends most days under or on top of my bed. All of the hutches online that i have seen have the litter box compartments on a second level with a ramp going up to it. Do bunnies use the litter box if it’s up high? And does anyone have experience with hutches?

        Thanks!

Hmmm, i depends a bit on he bun. Some buns will go in their box no matter where you put it, others are more associated with a particular corner or spot in the room.

Is he 100% free roam? Perhaps you could just modify your current set-up a bit to make it less messy. Do you use a hay rack or a litter box screen? Adding a screen can really help with the box digging. I had to add one when Bun Jovi decided to do this (LOL):

Yes, it really does depend on the bunny. They may not want to go to a higher level and then through a “door” to get to their litter box. I agree with Dana. You should try a litter screen to cut down on the digging. You could also get a large litter box, put “walls” on 3 sides, and then have a hay rack hanging so that bunny must get inside the litter box to reach the hay. The hay rack would prevent them from pulling too much hay out at once.
