I don’t know how anyone has fared in the Carolinas, but Hanna moved north a few days ago out at sea – Florida just got rain on the west side of the hurricane, as it traveled about 150 miles off shore up to the Carolinas. Last I heard it was a heavy rain storm that was still moving it’s way over NY and northward before finally dissipating.
Actually it looked like Ike was a much bigger threat to FL but yesterday it went SSW and is currently over Cuba as a Level 3 Hurricane. It’s path is not predicted to head north, though it may change once it hits the gulf. With luck it will lose strength over land in Cuba, but is still being watched closely. For a while South FL was in its direct path, so many of us are relieved to see the latest, though the Bahamas took quite a hit. (Islands north east of Cuba – I thnk it said it was the Bahamas Ike made contact with.) Everyone in my area has gotten prepared, but we’ve had blue skies for 2 days – a nice reprieve.
There’s another one off the coast of Africa of course, but tis the season, and most of them don’t quite make it to the US coast. Sept./Oct. get the worst of it. What amazes me is that you can’t seem to buy a rain hat in South Florida! They all use umbrellas. Very soggy people. Appreciate your concern, MM.
