For the last few years, my dear husband has had some untidy habits that have driven me crazy and which I have nagged him endlessly about. Nothing changed. But with the arrival of first Floppy and then Muffin, these messy habits have slowly disappeared.

First my dear husband no longer places glasses of juice and opened bottles of beer on the floor next to the couch. If anything upright is put on the floor, you can bet that Floppy will arrive 2 minutes later to push it over.

DH no longer eats on the couch. He can no longer enjoy his tv snacks as he is soon assailed by the begging and persistant pair of buns. They have stolen, looted, and spilled countless bowls of fruit, popcorn, and chips. Holding the bowl doesn’t help my DH either, as the rabbits will literally climb him for the food. The living room stays much cleaner now.

DH now picks up his clothes and shoes off the floor. Too many shirts has developed “holes” and the rabbits like to pee on his socks for some reason. Now clothes go in the laundry basket.

DH also now tidies up his paperwork, newspaper, books, and magazines after he done looking at them. If they are left on the couch, coffee table, bed or any other low laying place, they quickly become chewed or shredded. Several of his books are missing their spines because of Floppy and Muffin really enjoys shredding his favorite sports magazine.

So in many ways my rabbits have trained my husband out of some of his less than desirable habits. How about any of you. In which ways have your buns altered the behavior (for the better) of your spouses, partners, or children.

Thats awesome… I know my boyfriend spent part of last Saturday tidying up Lola’s area.
I was pretty impressed! He has been a lot tidier since we’ve been together but taking care of Lola
has helped him become more responsible.

Thanks for the good laugh this morning!  That just cracked up!  I don’t have those problems because Mr. Chicken will not come out of the office, (his room)! I do hate it when the DH’s leave their clothes in a heap on the floor at night among a million other things!!! Sorry men out there but my sister in law just sent me the funniest card.  On the front are 2 old ladies and they say “We were just discussing the life cycle of men“.  Inside it says:  “They’re born“  “They’re wrong” “They die“.  Is this true or what!!!!!

              HAHAHAAAAA!!!!

We noticed over here that ever since Velvet allowed herself access to the living room (that’s a different story…), we have been much better at keeping it decluttered. We are bad about throwing the mail onto the coffee table and leaving it there for days. I leave my shoes flying around (so does he though!), he leaves his socks around… well, now, we HAVE to clean everything up! My husband loves to eat goldfish on the couch. Sometimes, he drops a goldfish here and there but doesn’t pick it up. Well, on her first evening in the living room, she found a goldfish and crunched away on it. We are paranoid about our animals’ diet. They are not allowed any kind of junk food in the least bit. They don’t get human bad food ever – so my husband panicked. Ever since, guess where the goldfish land? Yup, into his mouth – only.

I can’t stand mopping the floors… Well, now, I’m forced to sweep the floors once a day at least. The rats will throw out food every once in a while and there is nothing Velvet loves more than to stand right in front of their cages and wait until something falls. Her first time coming outside in the dining room, my goodness, she crawled underneath the cages (they are elevated) and had a ball crunching away on their food! Now, everything is very clean at all time!

So yes, over here, it’s the same scenario as in your house! She surely has trained us well!

The therapy buns had really trained the kids to keep their desks tidy!  I never allowed food in my classroom, but you know that kids always sneak it in.  All the staff let the kids know that certain foods to kill the rabbits (ok so we lied and were extreme), so things got much tidier.  They learned pretty quickly not to leave their papers, coats, or book bags on the floor b/c it might become a chew toy or inpromptu potty.  Those rabbits did really quite well w/ training the kids.  Since they were kids w/ severe behavioral/emotional probs, they also learned that it’s not safe to throw things or have complete melt downs around the rabbits b/c it could scare or stress them or even hurt them.  I think they were more therapeutic than our behavioral interventions.

This is an excellent way of talking my mother into getting a bunny too.   I especially love that your rabbits pee on your husband’s socks…  Great visual.  Haha.
