I know it’s been posted here before and I think the answer was that rabbits can’t catch things like colds or flus from people but what about infections? I have a really bad ear/throat infection but I’ve been handling my rabbits/feeding them, etc but now all of a sudden I’m worried. I’ll make sure to wash my hands before cleaning Stormy’s little eye boogers or cleaning Bindi’s ears. My bf says it’s stupid because they are not made like humans but I’m still concerned. Any input?

I got some penicillin today so hopefully it will be gone soon. How annoying to have an ear infection, I thought only little kids got that. I can’t talk because of throat infection and I can’t hear out of one ear. What a fun weekend this will be

As far as I know there is nothing you can pass onto your rabbit.

I have also been told that colds and flus are not transmittable to bunnies.

LPT, I’m sorry to hear you’re sick. I have been home sick since last Sunday and it’s been awful. I was concerned about the same thing, though I just didn’t handle her much and kept her routines normal. I’m glad to hear it’s not possible. She was seeming neglected from my lack of attention despite being home with her, but after I got on anti-bios and felt better yesterday, she was doing binkies. She’s fine. Soon we will be too.

Sorry to hear you’re not well LPT. I hope you feel better soon!

When I’m ill, whether the buns can catch it or not, I just use my good hand washing techniques. That’s what they’re telling us to do for the swine flu outbreak, so I think it’ll work with just the ear infection.

I know you must be worried particularly for Bindi’s sake, since he’s still got ear issues.

                (hands hankies to all)

i had an upper respiratory infection and my buns were fine. i was so afraid i might get them to catch snuffles or something since they lick my face and lips and all, but they were fine.
