I should prob+ably start this off by saying I’m HIGHLY allergic to cats & dogs. We have family friends who have a single dog.  If they come over here and I interact with them I get hives.   Our house is out in the country and surrounded by things i’m allergic to (dust, hay, horses, dogs, cats).  This is only our second summer here. I don’t remember it being this bad last year but it took five years in central illinois and then one day BAM allergy city.

anywho.  We haven’t changed much in the house. I’ve pretty much always been fine with our bunny, we got 7 months ago,  We use pine pellets and orchard grass.  

ANYWAY my allergist test for everything but small pets (rabbit,gerbil, ferret).  Now all of the sudden i’ve begun randomly breaking out in hives.  In no where that makes sense.  Right now I have them on my right pointer finger and elbow and the side of my left foot.  My husband believes they could be workout induced.

If you have stuck with me this far, thanks haha!  I guess my question would be, Have you ever brought home a pet you were allergic to?  If so does 7 months of no symptoms and the all then sudden seem too random?

New allergies can develop over time. It is possible to develop an allergic reaction to something after prolonged exposure. Some people are allergic to rabbits. I knew someone who broke out in hives when they tried on a pair of rabbit fur earmuffs once. Many times though, it is the hay or something else associated with the rabbit and not the rabbit itself.

Does your bunny lick you? Saliva is something that can cause a reaction. I know, sounds weird.

It is unlikely, but allergies can develop seemingly overnight. I would suggest getting tested. If you aren’t using allergy meds I would say get some otc ones. I like using loratidine. Also for hives (I had a nasty case a few years ago that sent me to the ER) you can use things like milk of magnesia or an oatmeal bath for a natural approach to stop any itching. Even witch hazel and aloe are good. Good luck! I know how horrible hives can be!

I totally agree with LBJ. Allergies tend to pop up “suddenly. It’s not actually so sudden, it’s rather like a cup being filled with drop after drop of a liquid and you don’t notice anything is going on until it spills over = you break out in hives, hay fever, asthma etc.

It’s very possible to develop an allergy to sth that you’ve never reacted to before. This may even happen to people who’ve never been allergic to anything in their lives before.

I’m madly allergic to cats, but not to dogs and bunnies. I react to many plants though, so many that I can’t possibly avoid them all. I just take an OTC antihistamine when I feel it coming on (cetirizin, loratadine, fexofenadine). This time of year there are pollen and stuff everywhere =( Some summers are worse than other summers. 

Try changing the hay to some other grass variety. It’s often hay a person reacts to. I hope your hives turn out to be workout related injuries. Allergies are really boring.

Is it Psoriasis on your finger? I have it on my hands, Eczema all over my body, a kid could do Dot to dot puzle on me, Hives I get after a shower and not used my shower gels from the doctor, I know its painful itchy and in this weather ugh, I’ve just come out of the shower and I’m beetroot red, Hives, Eczema, Psoriasis the lot, anything can set off an allergic reaction, have you changed your diet suddenly because of the hot weather? Is dust blowing from your computer fan? Have you forgotten to vaccum somewhere in the house like your bed or lampshades? Hives can be stress related too, Hydrocortisone can help with itching, but if it is servere see a doctor.
I found out a few years ago when I was at the Christmas Market I was allergic to Reindeer fur, someone was selling some, I wasn’t going to buy fur not even a sample, but I touched some just to see how it felt, my hand swelled I got hives and I could hardly breathe.

I have been tested for allergies and usually take an OTC in the spring. It isn’t severe. Its three or four that are self resolving. Within a few hours they are gone. Today i’ve had none and nothing has changed from yesterday.
