Okay folks, I need help with this as I still don’t have what I would consider a completely rabbit savvy vet.
Pip has always been a BIG eater and downs no less that a large ziploc bag of hay once or twice a day. We were thinking we were feeding a tapeworm she was going through it so fast.
So recently, we introduced timothy pellets to her. Now at first she wasn’t having any of it…now she rummages through her hay to find them before she eats anything else, and then proceeds to eat EVERYTHING else.
Compared to Mimzy, she’s a little piggy bunny. I can hardly keep her fed.
Also, she make HUGE bb’s! I will attach a photo below for reference. On the left are her relative ‘normal’ size poops…those are bigger by half than Mimzy’s. But today, my daughter brings out the litterbox and WHOA! 0.0 You see the result on the right of the picture. TONS of them.
They appear softer than the other poops and I was able to break one apart with ease. No diarrhea, just very soft, like cake. I sniffed it and it smells like horse manure! The others have no odor and are harder to break (although I don’t think they had been in the box that long, they still seem ‘fresh’) and don’t crumble like the BIG big ones.
This worries me. The only other things she has is a papaya tablet per day after grooming as a treat, and a stick of carrot or a floret of borccoli (alternating) each evening. That and she seems to enjoy chewing big scratches in her litterboxes, sides of her habitat, etc. that are all plastic. I mean REALLY big digs in them, it looks like someone is whittling on them with a knife.
She has no tooth problems that I can see and her recent check up was stellar. She weighs in at 3 pounds eating all this and Mimzy, with his bird appetite, weighs in a 4-5 pounds. The only other difference is that she seems to be more energetic than Mimzy but at the same time is easier to handle, pick up, etc.
There is no other symptom we can find to concern us…her tummy is fine, she has no real fur in her stool to speak of…in fact almost none at all…and she otherwise presents as a happy, healthy bunny, albeit a little terror when she decides it’s time to make some noise.
Am I paranoid or is there something not right here? 0_o
