Ok Anya has become agressive humping bunny, bugz is not happy about this, we have had two fights in the past hour, both times I have split up and seriously thinking of splitting them into seperate cages.  Bugz seems to be trying to hump her back but if this keeps up i am worried about someone getting hurt… argh after just posting about having a perfect bond!

I am thinking maybe hormoes have kicked in, so maybe i should look at getting her done as soon as i can?

Honestly it depends on the vet. According to House Rabbit Society as young as 4 months but some vets recommend waiting until 6 months.

I had Little-Bit spayed at right around 6 months, but she had also had some health issues earlier on so six months was the soonest we could spay her.

I think many vets here would aim for around the 6month old mark with females. Strangley, I recently read that does become adult (or reach sexual maturity) can vary with breeds. 4-6 months for middle sized rabbits and 5-8 months for giant breeds. So I guess 6 months is a good average. At the end of the day, it comes down to your vet. How old is Anya?

Anya is around 4 months we think we where always aiming for the end of feb just for ease of things for me. I guess i will just have to wait it out. Tonight them seem better Bugz has managed to establish himself as top dog again and no fighting has been seen today.

6 months is what most vets will do. It’s a much more delicate procedure than a male neuter. Some vets will do it younger, but you have to make sure they are competent. And if she’s very small, they may not want to do it anyways. Most of the cases I’ve heard of with vets doing a spay on a 4 month old is b/c it was a large breed rabbit…

Yeah that is pretty much what my vet said. She is said that as Anya agression/humping goes away if they are in the cage just put them back in the cage when it starts for some reason she is more submissive then they are caged together so that is what i did today and outside of one incident I think Anya caught on to “Hump Bugz go in cage, bad Anya” and she has been out since about 4pm and not shown any signs of it. however he has twice put her in her place but in a gentle non agressive way.

You may still want to consider a separate cage for when you’re not around to supervise. I’d hate for you to be away and come home to one or both being injured… :o( It’s not uncommon for this to happen at about this time when one bun is unaltered.

I would split them up -fights can get serious quickly. And fighting will damage the bond that they do have and could mean it will be harder to bond after the surgery. So I’d split for now-up until one month after the spay (which as others said-around 5-6 months) I know it sucks to seperate them but they will continue fighting and I would wager it will get worse

My vet waited until Monkey was 7 months old to spay her, due to her tiny size. He said had she been bigger, he would have had her in at 5 months. But then again, my vet is the one that trains the Oregon vets He’s awesome.

I have been home the last few days and there has been no fighting outside of that one night and a bit of humping the next day. I think i might leave them together, nothing was ever agressive more just annoying to Bugz.
